By Farr Farrside Pinot Noir 2024
$110.00Every year, it’s a tussle to decide my preference; Sangreal or Farrside. A warmer, even vintage 2024, without extremes and there seems a certain evenness to the two pinots, they are so well appointed. Another feature of this release is their apparent openness, so much so that I cannot remember these two wines tasting so […]

Fighting Gully Road Aglianico 2018
$45.00The winemaker has a close connection with Italy, hence the decision to plant 1450 individually-staked aglianico vines on a terrace at FGR. A fascinating grape brought to life and, importantly, managed beautifully, massaging its notoriously high tannin and acidity and bringing forth a veritable cavalcade of exotic, savoury aromas and flavours in bramble, black cherry, […]

A Rodda Smiths Vineyard Beechworth Chardonnay 2024
$85.00A bit of a sleeper at first, with airy notes of flint, nutmeg and fennel coming to the fore. With a little more nudging, spiced stone-fruits and earthy wafts of fresh moss appear. Bulman Gary’s Vineyard Grenache 2024
$75.00“From the Springs Hill vineyard in Blewitt Springs, with the ’07-planted grenache grown by Gary Whaite. Pale in the glass, this is less effusively spicy than the ’23, somewhat coiled, but with more power behind it. A story of vintage. Power is misleading, though, as this is just so refined, rolling through sour red cherries, […]

La Battistelle ‘Roccolo del Durlo’ Soave Classico 2023
$65.00Dense and rich with yellow peach, paw paw, apricot, cherry, kiwifruit, lime and gardenia. Old vines and low yields on a steep gradient lend themselves to contraction, structure and individuality. The palate is unctuous, and it’s hard not to imagine taking a bite out of a perfectly ripe peach, or cherry or taking a spoon […]

By Farr Sangreal Pinot Noir 2024
$140.00An older vineyard than the Farrside, planted in 1994 and, for me, the Farr’s most unique expression of pinot noir. The long even vintage has yielded a wine of spotless cut, with the colours and profiles of the four seasons. Never has it been more immediate and impudent, it’s so pinot, but no other pinot […]

Corymbia Calgardup Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2023
$70.00“The 2023 Cabernet Sauvignon springs from a most glorious season in Western Australia (WA), and in particular, Margaret River.
