For the first time, this includes Syrah from a Noordhoek vineyard planted in 2013 as well as from the usual tiny Fish Hoek plantings. 50% whole-bunch fermentation. Matured for 10 months in foudre and neutral 500-litre barrels. Hugely evocative aromatics of red and black berries, floral perfume, fynbos and pepper. The palate is extraordinarily well delineated and the epitome of “energetic.” A wine of striking poise – succulent fruit, plenty of drive and ultra-fine, powdery tannins, the finish bone-dry. Alc: 13%. 98 points – Christian Eedes, winemag.co.za
Made from two Syrah vineyards, including a new parcel near Cape Point Vineyards, this cuvée includes around 50% whole cluster. It has a very perfumed nose with raspberry, wild strawberry, Dorset plum, and spice-box notes, evolving into more floral aromas over time. The medium-bodied palate is full of crunchy red berry fruit and fine backbone, leading to an impressively structured yet elegant, saline finish. 94 points – Neal Martin

Exceptionally rare. A wine that I think embodies this estate like no other, showcasing their ability to make elegant, savoury and very complex wines, not just dark and massive monsters. Of all the wines in the Tyrrell’s Winemaker’s Selection, the Vat 9 shiraz is the most distinctive and stylistically consistent. Every Vat 9 has classic Hunter River Burgundy hallmarks of florality, high tones, medium weight, complex compote of mixed tangy fruits, a fine line of acid and the Tyrrell’s signature of an angular shape. The […]

Barossa Valley Cabernet is one of our great underrated wine styles. Curator’s effort is very cabernet and as it should be, very Barossa. Deep and vibrant colour, with soaring, glorious aromatics of black fruits, lavender and wood spice. Full bodied, full of vigour and strength, with savoury herbs, licorice, camp fire, creme de cassis, dark […]
