Storm Ridge Chardonnay 2023
$60.00A wine of phenomenal detail, complexity and layered richness. Juicy, succulent and luscious, with butter, honey, mandarin, fig, grapefruit, pawpaw, citrus blossom, star jasmine, crushed pineapple and macadamia. Richly textured, with savoury oak, dry extract and fleshy fruit, yet the acidity is taut, driving and beautifully tense. Like an Italian interior: sumptuous, sophisticated and somehow […]

Traviarti Black Springs Nebbiolo 2023
$60.00Traviarti’s Simon Grant helped establish this vineyard, which will no doubt be a source of great Nebbiolo. Considering how young the vines are, this is remarkable. Highly aromatic – more so than the estate wine – with crushed rose, English summer fruit compote, beetroot and ruby grapefruit. The palate is expansive and finely shaped, with […]

Eleni & Edouard Vocoret Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot 2021
$115.00“The 2021 Chablis Le Bas de Chapelot comes across quite closed on the nose, though Edouard Vocoret mentioned how this cuvée has closed down at the time of my visit. The palate is complex with touches of apricot and white peach, plenty of minerals and flint, focused with a long tail on the finish. This […]

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Bourgogne Blanc 2024
$125.00‘The Bourgogne vineyards are in Meursault Puligny, Chassagne and St-Aubin. Glowing pale lemon. Crisply attractive, not very reductive, no great weight on the palate, tingling acidity, a little citrus rinse, fair length. Bondar Hope Springs Eternal Grenache 2024
$75.00Trott vineyard, ’52-planted bush vines, about 60% whole bunch with a very gentle extraction, matured in seasoned Austrian oak, ceramic and sandstone amphora. The Trott vineyard often throws darker fruits and moodier florals, and they’re here, yet the core remains red fruited and the structure is agreeably tense, a conduit for the twin charge of […]

Mayford Tempranillo 2023
$50.00A stellar tempranillo that offers a deeper insight into the grape with each vintage. Eleana Anderson has a wonderful, intuitive understanding of the Spanish grape, one that mixes a ripe expression with a light, savoury touch. Traviarti Nebbiolo 2023
$75.00Understated aromatics, but nothing a good swirl and cupping of glass won’t sort out! Black/hedge and red fruits, ruby grapefruit, a little reductive, smokey, alpine herbs, licorice and pink peppercorns. A totally different beast to the Black Springs; deeper and more brooding. Wider in shape, the fruit plusher and very complex, sweet but very tangy, […]

By Farr Chardonnay 2025
$110.00Yummm. By Farr is in the top tier of Australian chardonnay, and there are certainly none better. Last year’s GC Chardonnay, the 2024 was my pick all year, so ravishing and tensioned it was. And yet the estate 2025 is a totally different beast. During our recent discussion, Nick Farr went on to point out […]

Sailor Seeks Horse Chardonnay 2023
$69.00There’s a little more aromatic concentration this year methinks. Still resplendent in its ripe white peach and citrus fruits, flecked with spiced oatmeal, clotted cream, meadow wildflowers, grilled cashews, nougat, distant struck flint and nicely judged vanillin oak. Stony and nicely focused on the palate with a briny sapidity and impressive tension between fruit and […]

Decades Pinot Noir 2023
$78.00Is there more promise for Tasmanian chardonnay or pinot noir, or in a sense, are they equal? Considering the Decades chardonnay and pinot noir are off the same vineyard and the wines are as they are, I find i cannot apportion preference. Fragrant; it’s so beautifully alive with lavender and violets, clove, smoked paprika and […]

By Farr Shiraz 2024
$110.00This is always so, so good. It’s complex which I love, as so often this grape is one dimensional. There is more than a note of ripe fruit, there is graphite, black olives, it feels silky yet there is a note of ocean spray, a faint yet lovely salinity, then follows the spice. There is […]
