Apogee Deluxe Vintage Rose 2019

A fuller, fleshier, silky rendition of a sparkling rose, which suits me just fine. Lovely colour, with aromas of lavender, red summer fruit compote, ruby grapefruit and cherry pie. It’s built differently to the Deluxe Brut Vintage, being more linear, more tightly structured and less round in shape. Ripe fleshy red fruits are tensioned by subtle Christmas spice and tangy citrus, cream and pastry. Beautifully balanced and pitched, with terrific glide and flow. I know what I’m serving this year. A single-vineyard blend of 77/17/6% pinot noir/chardonnay/pinot meunier. Salmon pink in the glass with a fine, energetic bead and notes of redcurrant, red apple, blood orange, grapefruit and a liminal waft of wild strawberries. Some fresh-pastry characters flow in on the palate which shows fine, lacy acidity, a light tug of textural skin tannins and a lovely cadence as it sweeps off the palate with a vapour trail of red fruits, stone and soft spice. 94 Points, Halliday Wine Companion
