Home Hill Estate Pinot Noir 2023
$55.00This is a beguiling and dreamy wine. Translucent, deep ruby/magenta with a harmonious bouquet of dark, jubey fruit, subtle florals, spicy rolling tobacco and wet stone. The nose certainly promises a lot and the palate delivers in spades. Smooth, soft, full and ripe – red and dark cherries mingle with chalky, ultra-fine tannins with enough […]

The 2023 is the first vintage where all the fruit for the Landslide comes off estate vines, albeit young vines. Potential plus however. This is very serious and delicious. Deep […]

Dr Edge Tasmania Pinot Noir 2024
$58.00Peter Dredge is the very model of the modern major winemaker. Classically trained, technically strong, he has the solid foundations required to push things, as he punningly promises on the label, to the edge. Without the disciplined fruit sourcing, the commitment to keeping multiple parcels separate through fermentation and the finely tuned skill to blend […]

Dr Edge Brut Nature NV
$50.00Very light yellow/straw colour with freshness and some aged complexities introducing a toasty element. The wine is very dry and rich, complex and deep, with incisive lemon, verbena/herbal and lightly toasty flavours of balance and charm. Appetising and high-energy. Long, refreshing finish. A very smart non-vintage wine. 95 Points, Huon Hooke – The Real Review […]

Sailor Seeks Horse Chardonnay 2023
$69.00There’s a little more aromatic concentration this year methinks. Still resplendent in its ripe white peach and citrus fruits, flecked with spiced oatmeal, clotted cream, meadow wildflowers, grilled cashews, nougat, distant struck flint and nicely judged vanillin oak. Stony and nicely focused on the palate with a briny sapidity and impressive tension between fruit and […]

Stargazer Pinot Noir 2025
$75.00“Bright ruby crimson in colour, the nose immediately shows some juniper berry and green cardamom spice which opens to reveal a lively combination of red and black fruits. Red liquorice and rosehip tea dominate, but there is some chinotto and fenugreek there also. The palate is refined, compact and coiled, lithe tannins coming in early […]

Stargazer Riesling 2026
$40.00“Very pale yellow in colour with green hints, the nose is floral and lifted, showing waxy white flowers; gardenias and jasmine. In the background pink grapefruit and kaffir lime spiciness. The acid provides structure, drive and backbone to the palate, while the tangy exit is balanced with a judicious touch of residual sugar.” Samantha Connew […]

Holyman Pinot Noir 2024
$60.00Despite the light colour, pouring the wine releases an immense bouquet. I know we’re in for a treat! Expressive and vibrant with plum, cherry, raspberry, blackberry and five spice. Deep, succulent and complex and so much presence and grip. Tannins are very fine, that seem to tighten towards the close. Scaffolding acidity, with the length […]

Evenfall Chardonnay 2023
$45.00A thoroughly complete Australian chardonnay, Evenfall’s white has a foot in just about all the stylistic camps and the total sum of its parts is awesome. Has all the drive, tang and mineral intensity of Chablis and the darker fruits, texture and flesh of Meursault. Lovely aromatics of gardenia, pastry, cashew, preserved lime, yellow peach […]

Pressing Matters R9 Riesling 2022
$42.00I love the ‘R’ designations on the Pressing Matters rieslings. From R0 for bone-dry to R139 for sweet, they are an indication of the RS in the wine. The R9, in theory, should teeter on that fulcrum between dry and off-dry, but that crystalline Tasmanian acidity tempers any sweetness and it appears dry. And totally […]

Holyman Chardonnay 2024
$60.00Only a tiny amount of this wine is made each year, and very little ever leaves Tasmania. It’s a pure, confident expression of site – built to reward patience in the cellar. Aromatically, it opens with white peach, and sweet citrus notes. The palate is taut and zingy, carrying through long on the finish. Oak […]

Meadowbank Blanc de Blancs 2018
$85.00I don’t normally like fizzes aged for long periods on lees but this, disgorged after five years, seems to have hit a sweet spot. Still very primary and super intense with pastry notes, butter, apple, almond cream, lavender, honey, grapefruit, lemon, lime, white peach and cinnamon. Fantastic intensity with great vibrancy, the acidity so lively […]

Pressing Matters R69 Riesling 2022
$42.00Pale green-yellow hue; a lifted perfume of honey, lime and lemon blossoms and the palate is rich and yet super-fine, the sweetness balancing out what is surely quite high acidity. The end result is gorgeous flavour and fruit/sugar/acid balance. The persistent honey note suggests the grapes were fully ripe. The finish is clean and harmonious. […]

Domaine A Petit A Cabernets 2014 Museum Release
$70.00St Emillion inspired, but for me, reminiscent of the haunting, autumnal wines of Pessac Leognan. Beautifully complex aromas of blackcurrant, cranberry, mulberry, blackberry, violets, garrigue herbs, tobacco leaf, mint and cocoa. Pure ripe fruit, supple initially, before the sensual squeeze of chewy, tobacco laced tannins. Very complex interplay of savoury and fruit notes with squid […]

Dr Edge Blanc de Noir 2020
$65.00Very light colour, with a very subtle blush or taché, the aromas are fresh and mostly primary, with suggestions of iced pastries and brioche, and in the mouth it’s full and rich with quite marked acidity that drives the super-dry aftertaste. It certainly cleanses the tongue, and would be refreshing with lighter foods, especially oysters […]
