Crawford River Riesling 2024
$58.00A very bright green gold. Smells like the essence of perfectly ripened lemon and lime, jasmine and frangipani together with a little apple blossom. Gently textured, this flows mellifluously across the palate, finishing saline, chalky and long. Just a touch richer than the ’23 and a beautiful wine to drink now and over the next […]

La Rioja Alta Vina Ardanza Reserva 2019
$120.00The 2019 Vina Ardanza is a highly impressive, full-bodied blend of 80% older-vine Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha from two different parts of Rioja grown at the same altitude. The producer’s own American oak was used to age the Tempranillo 36 months and the Garnacha 30 months, 20% new. The fruity nose of black cherry and […]

Fighting Gully Road Chardonnay 2024
$50.00Twelve months in 300L French Tronçais barrels followed by three months on lees in tank before bottling. Chardonnay, the undoubted strength of Beechworth, was one of the first fruits picked in the ’24 vintage at FGR, retaining sensational, energised acidity while keeping a pretty tight flavour profile. Spring blossom aromatics mingle with tangy citrus and […]

Mullineux Straw Wine 2021 (375ml)
$90.00Gosh! this is a tough one to describe as we have not really tasted anything quite like this. Expressive bouquet of lime marmalade, lavender honey, apricot, yellow peach, fig and cherry. Luscious and intense with thrusting acidity and slightly textured. There is a reductive nutty element that balance’s the sweetness of the wine, but there’s […]

La Battistelle ‘Battistelle’ Soave Classico 2023
$48.00Despite being a single vineyard and not a blend like the Montesei, there are similarities. Wildly complex, with white flowers, honeysuckle, lemon zest, grapefruit, white peach, orchard fruits and mustard seed. Deep and focused with greater amplitude and a peacocks tail of flavour and texture. The palate is at once succulent and light on its […]

Paralian Marmont Vineyard Grenache 2024
$45.00Pale in the glass and engagingly savoury, feeling a little less up-front fruitful than the ’23 at the same stage, but certainly no less for it. More, perhaps. This is savoury, with pressed flowers, dried cranberry, damson and macerated cherries, warm stone, whole spices – fennel seed, clove, cardamom – and a little blood orange […]

La Rioja Alta Vina Alberdi Reserva 2019
$65.00Gorgeous nose of creaming soda, nutmeg, cherry, raspberry and thyme. Plush and round in shape, with strong oak influence and some tertiary notes poking through. Aniseed, sandalwood, cinnamon, vanilla and sweet Jamon. These I suspect will become more prominent with time. Utterly idiosyncratic and a beautiful introduction to traditional Rioja. Dr Edge Tasmania Pinot Noir 2024
$58.00Peter Dredge is the very model of the modern major winemaker. Classically trained, technically strong, he has the solid foundations required to push things, as he punningly promises on the label, to the edge. Without the disciplined fruit sourcing, the commitment to keeping multiple parcels separate through fermentation and the finely tuned skill to blend […]

Tillie J Aligote 2025
$42.00Aligote has become trendy, presumably because in Burgundy at least, it’s hard to tell the difference with chardonnay and they are invariably cheaper. Ironically, I find it’s more varietal in Australia, being more linear than chardonnay and fine boned. Tillie J’s is remarkable, a shock really, it’s just so damn good and such good value! […]
