Stunning aromatics of sandalwood, lavender, rhubarb, raspberry, nutmeg and blackcurrant. A great expression of Yarra Valley pinot noir, with it’s intense aromas, precise structure, elevated fruit and spicy/flavor characteristics. Red fruit compote, dried flowers, star anise, hoisin and subtle oak. Bright and vibrant, yet with the structure, balance and length of flavor to age for many years. Really something and a terrific bargain. Norris at Waters Wine Co
From the old Lance’s vineyard, planted from 1976–1998 (with a selection massale from Mount Mary) and in 2003. 80% whole berry and 20% whole bunch. Bright crimson. Perfumed with wild strawberries, first of the summer cherries, subtle rose bush and spice. The more you swirl the glass, the more fragrant it becomes. On the palate, there is a tender plushness, making it feel quite different to the previous Bicknell FC pinots from the Upper Yarra. Fine tannins and bright acidity round out a beautifully crafted and graceful wine. 96 Points – Philip Rich, Halliday Wine Companion
The 2024 Applecross Pinot Noir is from a massal selection of clonal material planted between 1976 and 1998 at St. Andrews in the Yarra Valley. It was fermented with whole berries/whole bunches, and the élevage was in French oak barrels. This wine, a few months ahead of its market release currently, is so bright and perfumed. Rose, pistachio, graphite/petrichor, dry spice and tapenade coalesce on the palate in a rush. Pure, tightly wound and eminently focused, this is a gorgeous wine. The whole-bunch character rides high in the wine, but far from finding it distracting, I find myself attracted to it. This is super good and comes warmly recommended. 13.4% alcohol, sealed under screw cap. 95 points – Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate

Bicknell FC is the label of Nicky Harris and David Bicknell, chief winemaker at Oakridge. David Bicknell is one of Australia’s greatest winemakers and we have had many a superb cellared bottle contest between Oakridge and Bicknell FC.
All the fruit is from a close planted vineyard at Gladysdale, planted in 1988. This is an exceptionally cool site, perfect for making fresh, intense and vivid wines. You could not have hoped for a better spot in the Upper Yarra. The site has great diurnal range, warm days and cool nights, and despite the elevation is able to consistently produce full flavored and fleshy wines due to its rich volcanic soil. Tiny quantities only, with 1.Ha of Chardonnay and 1.5ha of Pinot Noir, with a few hundred dozen made in any given vintage.
Winemaking is simple and classic. Wild unhurried cool ferments, absolutely no additions apart from small quantities of sulfur, aging in used wood and for the reds, minimal punchdowns. Casks are rigorously finished up and the maturing process is kept short, retaining freshness and a certain structural angularity so well suited to Yarra Valley Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
