Irrewarra Pinot Noir 2024
$75.00A high proportion of whole bunches brings lift and aromatic complexity, building into a mid-palate of real flesh and weight, framed by finely wrought, cashmere-like tannins. The fruit is pure and expressive—compote of red and darker berries layered with lifted florals – while savoury nuances of spice, cured meat, earth and a subtle ferrous edge […]

Pokolbin Vintners Pokolbin Mountain Light Dry Red 2025
$38.00Hunter Shiraz doing things its own way. Intensely fragrant and wonderfully cool-site in character, with lavender, raspberry, blackberry, blueberry, earth, mace and liquorice. Then comes the freshness – tangy red fruits, chalky tannins, brilliant natural acidity and a seriously mouth-puckering hit of limestone minerality. Elegant but far from lightweight, this is all precision, energy and […]

A Rodda Smiths Vineyard Beechworth Chardonnay 2024
$85.00A bit of a sleeper at first, with airy notes of flint, nutmeg and fennel coming to the fore. With a little more nudging, spiced stone-fruits and earthy wafts of fresh moss appear. The core exudes a quiet confidence, anchored by stone-fruits layered with flint, white button mushroom and sweet spices. It’s been handled with […]

Home Hill Landslide Pinot Noir 2023
$40.00Very stylish and complex aromatics of summer red fruits, hedge fruits, fennel, mint, Turkish tobacco, fresh compost, tar, blood orange, dark chocolate, roses and Serano. The 2023 is the first vintage where all the fruit for the Landslide comes off estate vines, albeit young vines. Potential plus however. This is very serious and delicious. Deep […]

Fighting Gully Road Chardonnay 2024
$50.00Twelve months in 300L French Tronçais barrels followed by three months on lees in tank before bottling. Chardonnay, the undoubted strength of Beechworth, was one of the first fruits picked in the ’24 vintage at FGR, retaining sensational, energised acidity while keeping a pretty tight flavour profile. Spring blossom aromatics mingle with tangy citrus and […]

Standish Wine Co The Standish 2021
$150.00Very deep colour and remarkably vivid considering the presumably long period in wood. There is bright purple towards the rim, fading from the deep blackness of the core, suggesting the inclusion of whole bunches. Intense aromatics, florals, black fruits, sweet and savoury spice. It’s not overly complex at present but the flavours are utterly captivating […]

Paralian Marmont Vineyard Grenache 2024
$45.00Pale in the glass and engagingly savoury, feeling a little less up-front fruitful than the ’23 at the same stage, but certainly no less for it. More, perhaps. This is savoury, with pressed flowers, dried cranberry, damson and macerated cherries, warm stone, whole spices – fennel seed, clove, cardamom – and a little blood orange […]

By Farr GC Chardonnay 2024
$170.00“Bright, light yellow colour; slightly green/herbal aromas of celery stalk, a suggestion of parsnip/earthy root vegetable. The wine is tight and tense, firm and has excellent concentration and vitality, oak taking a back seat. The finish is very dry, mineral and lip-smacking. This is lovely now and will cellar well for many years. 05 Nov […]

Fighting Gully Road Sangiovese 2024
$35.00Medium-bodied, with plush, fine-grained tannins that linger. Brambly dark berries, sour cherry and plum lead, with nuances of dried herbs, raspberry and earthy savouriness. $70.00“Vanguardist-farmed Rende vineyard bush vines, around 55 years old; 60% whole bunch, with about seven weeks on skins; matured in 2200L Slavonian oak. The cool vintage has its say. Dr Edge Tasmania Pinot Noir 2024
$58.00Peter Dredge is the very model of the modern major winemaker. Classically trained, technically strong, he has the solid foundations required to push things, as he punningly promises on the label, to the edge. Without the disciplined fruit sourcing, the commitment to keeping multiple parcels separate through fermentation and the finely tuned skill to blend […]

Bulman Gary’s Vineyard Grenache 2024
$75.00“From the Springs Hill vineyard in Blewitt Springs, with the ’07-planted grenache grown by Gary Whaite. Pale in the glass, this is less effusively spicy than the ’23, somewhat coiled, but with more power behind it. A story of vintage. Power is misleading, though, as this is just so refined, rolling through sour red cherries, […]

Tillie J Aligote 2025
$42.00Aligote has become trendy, presumably because in Burgundy at least, it’s hard to tell the difference with chardonnay and they are invariably cheaper. Ironically, I find it’s more varietal in Australia, being more linear than chardonnay and fine boned. Tillie J’s is remarkable, a shock really, it’s just so damn good and such good value! […]

Standish Wine Co The Relic 2022
$150.00The 2022 The Relic Shiraz-Viognier contains 2% Viognier skins, and this addition presents in this vintage as a core of raspberry and pomegranate.
