Irrewarra Pinot Noir 2024

$75.00

A high proportion of whole bunches brings lift and aromatic complexity, building into a mid-palate of real flesh and weight, framed by finely wrought, cashmere-like tannins. The fruit is pure and expressive—compote of red and darker berries layered with lifted florals – while savoury nuances of spice, cured meat, earth and a subtle ferrous edge add intrigue. There’s immediate beauty here, but also substance: a wine with genuine presence, depth and amplitude. Notes of spice, char and a gentle smokiness linger on the finish. Outstanding value within the Farr stable. Norris at Waters Wine Co

Spice grip and char then softness, then more tart bright sinewy notes. The nose is petals and perfume, then darker, richer barrel notes. It is a really lovely aroma. Actually, calling it lovely diminishes it somewhat, this is unique, complex and entirely appealing for those looking for something more from a glass of Pinot Noir. There is a different oak profile maybe, something smokier, something more angular. It really works with this wine, even if I’m wrong about the new oak regime. Whatever it is, be it new or just more present, adds a layer to this wine. The Irrewarra only improves with each vintage, it seems, and this is no different. I sat with this for a little while and those spice notes just kept delivering, and each sip or sniff offered something new and delicious. By Farr

Producer Profile

The Irrewarra vineyard, planted by the Calvert family in 2001, lies in Victoria’s Western District on sandy black loam over clay. Dry-farmed and shaped by a distinctly cool climate, the site yields wines of aromatic lift, structure and quiet elegance.

Since 2015, the vineyard has been managed by the Farr family, whose sensitive approach in both vineyard and winery allows the character of Irrewarra to speak with clarity. The name itself—an Aboriginal word meaning “long spear throw” – echoes a strong sense of place, captured in wines of purity, finesse and understated power.
