Meadowbank Blanc de Blancs 2018
$85.00I don’t normally like fizzes aged for long periods on lees but this, disgorged after five years, seems to have hit a sweet spot. Still very primary and super intense with pastry notes, butter, apple, almond cream, lavender, honey, grapefruit, lemon, lime, white peach and cinnamon. Fantastic intensity with great vibrancy, the acidity so lively […]

Jean-Louis Chavy Puligny Montrachet Folatieres 1er Cru 2022
$350.00From 0.51 ha of vines in 2 separate plots planted 1993 and 1965, one in the steepest stoniest part close to Blagny which contributes excellent acidity and structure, the other part is from lower down where the soil is richer and this part gives greater richness and depth to the wine. This shows wonderful intensity […]

Crystallum Mabalel Pinot Noir 2024
$85.00Peter-Allan Finlayson avoids using any whole clusters on Mabalel, as the Elandskloof stems tend to be greener and less lignified. Very much a cool climate style, it has impressive poise, focus and elegance, sappy redcurrant and wild strawberry fruit, perfumed 20% new wood, appealing zip and minerality and the structure to evolve gracefully in bottle. […]

Jasper Hill Georgia’s Paddock Shiraz 2024
$90.00Don’t be misled by cliches about the size and style of the Jasper Hill wines. Big though they are, they are fresh and balanced, with lovely natural acidity and waves of fruit and tannin. “Controlled full on”. Ferrous and autumnal notes reside with dark cherry, chocolate, lavender, potpourri, leather, polished wood and a compote of […]

$100.00Planted in ’84 and extended in ’86; certified organic in ’21. 100% destemmed and matured in French hogsheads (40% new). A medium-deep, crimson ruby. Exotic aromas of intense, brambly red and black fruits intermingle with dark rose, blood orange and a little leather. Juxtaposed Smart Vineyard Grenache 2021
$50.00Spicy, complex florals, red and dark fruits, fresh compost and pipe tobacco. Rich and full bodied, with thoroughly defined curves, dripping with fruit, draped in silk. Like the Wait, there is a lovely tension between the sweet and savoury elements, with curry leaf, bitter chocolate and the silk , morphing into fine, sandy tannins. A […]

Moreau-Naudet Chablis Les Pargues Vieilles Vignes 2022
$110.00Diam. Les Pargues is a Chablis lieu-dit on a ridge between the Montmains and Vosgros Premiers Crus. It has the same exposure as Vaillons and Montmains, so it’s a handy site. The story goes that it was initially classified 1er Cru (pre-AOC) before being largely abandoned during the war when there was a labour shortage. This meant it missed out on the status it […]

Vanguardist Mourvedre 2022
$65.00About as refined as you could imagine, with immense detail, poise, balance and beautiful texture. Like the Grenache this is very aromatic, but with black, briary and red fruits, flecked with potpourri, black olive and garrigue herbs. The tertiary element is in no way rustic and at the forefront is perfectly ripe, cool fruit. Texturally […]

Wild Duck Creek Sparkling Duck Shiraz NV
$80.00Exceptionally rare. A wine that I think embodies this estate like no other, showcasing their ability to make elegant, savoury and very complex wines, not just dark and massive monsters. Dark in colour, but less so than their still shiraz’s, and there is a greater emphasis on tertiary notes. The fruit profile is very complex, […]

Pierro Chardonnay 2024
$110.00“From one of Margaret River’s great chardonnay producers, this is yet another brilliant example of the style that has made Pierro so admired. You wouldn’t guess it came from a warm year—it’s delicate and fine, with a pristine brightness. The nose shows light grapefruit, citrus, a touch of butterscotch, and a subtle mealy note in […]

Domaine A Petit A Cabernets 2014 Museum Release
$70.00St Emillion inspired, but for me, reminiscent of the haunting, autumnal wines of Pessac Leognan. Beautifully complex aromas of blackcurrant, cranberry, mulberry, blackberry, violets, garrigue herbs, tobacco leaf, mint and cocoa. Pure ripe fruit, supple initially, before the sensual squeeze of chewy, tobacco laced tannins. Very complex interplay of savoury and fruit notes with squid […]

Eisenstone McDonald Vineyard Marananga Shiraz 2020
$115.00Deep, dark and very bright purple-red colour, with a lovely detailed aroma of chocolate and herbs, both fresh and dried; floral nuances and red fruits, hints of spices and the palate is very full-bodied and generous with lashings of supple tannins, all in harmony with the great depth of fruit. Wild Duck Creek Duck Muck 2021
$505.00A very rare wine of utmost intensity and exceptional quality, rewarding careful cellaring. Duck Muck was first made by a stroke of luck. Some super-ripe Shiraz was picked from Wild Duck Creek’s Original Vineyard and made into wine, which didn’t quite fill a barrel. The barrel was then topped up with Alan’s Cabernet Pressings, being […]

By Farr Viognier 2025
$110.00According to Nick Farr, 2025 was a challenging vintage, but the warm conditions and the speed of ripening was perfect for viognier. The picking window for viognier is very narrow indeed, as once ripe, acidity falls off very quickly, and even a day late can jeopardise the entire harvest. This is the year of the […]
