Stefano Lubiana Late Disgorged 2013

$85.00

The Late Disgorged 2013 from Stefano Lubiana is a world-class traditional method sparkling wine, crafted from biodynamically farmed Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Pale golden in the glass with a fine, persistent bead, it opens with lifted aromas of lemon and crisp apple, underpinned by a subtle saline edge. Layers of brioche and honeyed almond add depth and complexity. The palate is creamy and textural, revealing ripe peach alongside citrus and savoury nuances. There’s impressive depth here, balanced by freshness and precision, finishing dry, mineral and finely structured.

Producer Profile

Stefano Lubiana Wines is a benchmark producer of cool-climate wines, expressing the clarity and quiet power of Tasmania through a philosophy that unites minimal intervention with thoughtful, precise winemaking. Set in the Derwent Valley, overlooking the Derwent River, the estate benefits from a marginal climate ideally suited to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir – varieties that thrive on long, slow ripening and retain natural acidity, structure and aromatic purity.

Established in 1990 by fifth-generation winemaker Stefano Lubiana, the estate has grown into one of Tasmania’s most respected names. The winemaking ethos is grounded in restraint: fruit is handled gently, wild fermentations are embraced, oak is used judiciously, and sulphur is kept to a minimum. The intention is to allow site, season and variety to speak with clarity and detail.

A defining pillar of the estate is its commitment to biodynamics. As Tasmania’s first certified biodynamic vineyard, farming has followed these principles since 2010. The vineyard is treated as a self-sustaining ecosystem, where soils are nurtured through natural composts, cover crops and lunar cycles. No synthetic fertilisers, herbicides or pesticides are used, ensuring vine health and soil vitality while fostering a deeper, more authentic expression of terroir.

This approach translates directly into the glass. The wines are marked by purity and precision: Chardonnay shows citrus, stone fruit and saline minerality with fine tension and line; Pinot Noir offers red and dark berry fruit, subtle spice and a silken, structured palate. The estate’s traditional method sparkling wines are particularly celebrated – complex and refined, with fine bead, layers of brioche, citrus and orchard fruits, and a long, mineral finish.
