By Farr Farrside Pinot Noir 2024
$110.00Every year, it’s a tussle to decide my preference; Sangreal or Farrside. A warmer, even vintage 2024, without extremes and there seems a certain evenness to the two pinots, they are so well appointed. Another feature of this release is their apparent openness, so much so that I cannot remember these two wines tasting so […]

Bannockburn SRH Chardonnay 2025
$109.00From a 12-row block of P58 clone planted in ’76. Matured in French hogsheads and puncheons (40% new); 70% mlf. A very bright green gold. Interestingly, this is the most restrained and subtle of Bannockburn’s ’25 chardonnays, and, no surprise, also the most complex. Aromas of perfectly ripened stone fruits, orange pith and lemongrass precede […]

Irrewarra Pinot Noir 2024
$75.00A high proportion of whole bunches brings lift and aromatic complexity, building into a mid-palate of real flesh and weight, framed by finely wrought, cashmere-like tannins. The fruit is pure and expressive—compote of red and darker berries layered with lifted florals – while savoury nuances of spice, cured meat, earth and a subtle ferrous edge […]

By Farr GC Chardonnay 2024
$170.00“Bright, light yellow colour; slightly green/herbal aromas of celery stalk, a suggestion of parsnip/earthy root vegetable. The wine is tight and tense, firm and has excellent concentration and vitality, oak taking a back seat. The finish is very dry, mineral and lip-smacking. This is lovely now and will cellar well for many years. 05 Nov […]

By Farr Sangreal Pinot Noir 2024
$140.00An older vineyard than the Farrside, planted in 1994 and, for me, the Farr’s most unique expression of pinot noir. The long even vintage has yielded a wine of spotless cut, with the colours and profiles of the four seasons. Never has it been more immediate and impudent, it’s so pinot, but no other pinot […]

Mulline Pinot Noir 2025
$35.00“Made from fruit sourced from the Moorabool Valley, Surf Coast and Portarlington. 10% whole bunches and 15% new oak. A really bright crimson ruby. With its aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry and some whole bunch–derived pepper and spice, there’s a lot going on in this well put-together and attractively priced wine. The palate is medium […]

Mulline Pinot Gris 2025
$35.0020% was crushed and fermented on skins for seven days. A pale, bright salmon colour. Beautifully poised with its aromas of redcurrant, nectarine, pear and blood orange. Even better on the palate, where the flavours and texture are perfectly balanced by subtle time-on-skins tannins, before finishing orange-pithy and long. Should age nicely, too. Excellent. 96 […]

By Farr Chardonnay 2025
$110.00Yummm. By Farr is in the top tier of Australian chardonnay, and there are certainly none better. Last year’s GC Chardonnay, the 2024 was my pick all year, so ravishing and tensioned it was. And yet the estate 2025 is a totally different beast. During our recent discussion, Nick Farr went on to point out […]

Bannockburn Riesling 2024
$30.00“Made mainly from 0.4ha of vines planted in 1976. A pure and quite lovely nose featuring scents of Meyer lemon, makrut lime leaves and floral notes. The palate is linear, chalky and long with the fruit and acidity in perfect harmony. I’m thinking san choy bow would be a great match. I’m guessing it’ll age […]

By Farr Shiraz 2024
$110.00This is always so, so good. It’s complex which I love, as so often this grape is one dimensional. There is more than a note of ripe fruit, there is graphite, black olives, it feels silky yet there is a note of ocean spray, a faint yet lovely salinity, then follows the spice. There is […]

Bannockburn Winery Block Chardonnay 2025
$85.00Whole-bunch pressed, fermented and matured in French hogsheads and puncheons (40% new); 75% mlf. An intense, rich bouquet of yellow pear, citrus peel, spice and oyster shell. It’s ripe and mouth-filling, to be sure, but also nicely delineated, with an even thread of acidity giving the wine structure and length through to its long finale. […]

Exotic aromas of intense, brambly red and black fruits intermingle with dark rose, blood orange and a little leather. The medium-bodied palate is simultaneously concentrated yet beautifully balanced with ripe, persistent […]

By Farr Viognier 2025
$110.00According to Nick Farr, 2025 was a challenging vintage, but the warm conditions and the speed of ripening was perfect for viognier. The picking window for viognier is very narrow indeed, as once ripe, acidity falls off very quickly, and even a day late can jeopardise the entire harvest. This is the year of the […]

Farr Rising Gamay 2025
$62.00Deep, dark, and vibrant in the glass. The nose is intense — dark spice, a punch of salinity, savoury herbs and graphite. Beneath the assertive opening sits a perfumed musk and confectionary lift that hints at carbonic maceration. A second pass reveals brown spice — mace and clove — alongside ripe Christmas cherries. The palate […]

Bannockburn De La Terre Pinot Noir 2022
$80.00One of the most stunningly aromatic pinots we’ve tried in a very long time. Drawing you in with star anise, sweet cherry, blackberry, cola, lavender wood, aniseed, sweet raspberry and cassis. Round and open, the aromatics quiet different to what’s found on the palate. Cured meats, mushroom, fresh compost, smoke and baking spices. Savoury tertiary […]

Mulline Single Vineyard Sutherlands Creek Pinot Noir 2025
$65.00A single-vineyard wine planted with MV6 and Abel clones in the late ’90s; 25% whole bunches. A bright, medium crimson. Whereas the ’24 was quite restrained, this is beautifully fragrant from the get-go, with its bouquet of red and black fruits, bramble and lifted florals. The palate is gently mouth-filling with silky tannins that make […]

$100.00The By Farr Shiraz is amongst Australia’s best and most singular; a great site expression. Rich, concentrated, seamless and controlled. There is great tension between the sweet and […]

Nadeson Collis Inception NV
$60.00“A very vinous sparkling, composed, rich, silky in texture, the Inception sees around 25% solera material blended with the remaining wine, chardonnay from 2017. The combined wines are matured in barrel. It’s a bold sparkling with honey on toast, cashew and sea-spray characters. Fuller in flavour, it shows a zingy tang of acidity and vigorous, […]

By Farr GC Chardonnay 2025
$170.00‘My vocabulary defaults to words like fragile and brittle, but it’s not right. Neither sinew, nor high pitched do this wine justice. It’s like porcelain; translucent, strong, beautiful and pure. Don’t make the same mistake I did and drink this straight from the fridge, it’s too cold. This wine is reluctant when it’s 4 degrees, a reluctance that becomes […]

Bannockburn Chardonnay 2024
$70.0095 points, TWF Bannockburn’s Chardonnay has a track record most Victorian producers would give their eye teeth for.
