The La Migoua area is renowned for its geological features and is often studied for its complex sediment patterns. The outcrops of rocks found in this area date back much further than those in the rest of the Bandol winegrowing area. The effect of one tectonic plate sinking beneath another (subduction) can actually be observed here. During the geological formation of the Alps, the lower layers folded themselves over the younger upper layers. The other unusual feature of this area is the huge geological fracture found in Val d’Arenc which is the reason for the outcrops of rock layers dating back to the Triassic age (200–250 million years ago). The vineyard’s parcels are intertwined among this wild landscape of scrubland and pine forest. Producer’s Note
Of the 2020 ‘The 2020 Bandol la Migoua—tasted from foudre—is a bit tarry and rubbery (expected, to some degree, in young Mourvèdre-based wines) but opens up to reveal seductive, ripe notes of blackberries and mulberries. A blend of approximately 55% Mourvèdre, 25% Cinsault, 15% Grenache and 5% Syrah, it’s medium to full-bodied on the palate, concentrated but silky in feel and elegant on the long finish.’ 92-94 Points, Joe Czerwinski, eRobertParker.com, Feb 2023
Hands down, the best value bistro wine we have tasted from anywhere. Sweet and tangy compote of red, blue and black fruits. Super bright palate, juicy, with gentle spice, refreshing acidity, silky mouthfeel and a squeeze of powdery tannins. Utterly drinkable, versatile and there’s a serious side too. Absolute bargain. Some super-ripe Shiraz was picked from Wild Duck Creek’s Original Vineyard and made into wine, which didn’t quite fill a barrel. The barrel was then topped up with Alan’s Cabernet Pressings, being […]
