The SCHIST Syrah is grown on our Roundstone Estate in the Swartland, home of Mullineux. Planted in 2000, we have been working intimately with this vineyard since 2005 and it is the reason that we purchased the property. The structured SCHIST soils make for structured, broader tannins and create the darkest perfume of all our single soil Syrahs, with phenomenal aging potential.
This is the most structured Syrah in our Single Terroir range. On the nose there are notes of black pepper, black fruit and spices. The palate is full-bodied with a meaty, savoury character, plenty silky tannins giving structure and a balancing natural acidity. The finish is fresh, long and supple. Winemaker’s Notes
2020 – 5 Stars Platter (95), 96 CE, 96+ GS, 98 TA, 94 NM, 95 JS
The Savage Red 2020 is a pure Syrah sourced exclusively from prime organically grown Stellenbosch vineyards planted on decomposed granite soils. The grapes were spontaneously fermented from wild yeasts using 50% whole clusters spending 3 to 4 weeks on skins. The wine spends 12 months in 500 litre barrels followed by a further 10 months […]
Add to cart Producer: SavageSuperficially an outsider in the range, coming from classic Heathcote Cambrian soil, known for producing wines of incredible richness and power. But it’s not an outsider, the power harnessed and controlled by the best in the business. Certainly the Heart of Darkness of the range; the richest, most dangerous, darkest and deepest wine. Masses of […]
Add to cart Producer: Place of Changing WindsHamlets Shiraz (previously known as Parishes Shiraz) is a blend from different sub regions or “Hamlets” from where we grow and buy grapes from across the Barossa Valley. Hamlets Shiraz is made in a complex but juicy style that is true to our house style but extremely easy to drink though complex enough to be […]
Add to cart Producer: Curator Wine CoThe power of blends is clearly evident and this was for me my favorite wine in the Tim Smith line up. The different grapes have complemented each other beautifully. Rich, juicy, hedonistic, fragrant and savory, the Mataro adding smoke, compost and firm, grippy tannins. Controlled power, the shiraz still comes through strongly, a mass of […]
