The SCHIST Syrah is grown on our Roundstone Estate in the Swartland, home of Mullineux. Planted in 2000, we have been working intimately with this vineyard since 2005 and it is the reason that we purchased the property. The structured SCHIST soils make for structured, broader tannins and create the darkest perfume of all our single soil Syrahs, with phenomenal aging potential.
This is the most structured Syrah in our Single Terroir range. On the nose there are notes of black pepper, black fruit and spices. The palate is full-bodied with a meaty, savoury character, plenty silky tannins giving structure and a balancing natural acidity. The finish is fresh, long and supple. Winemaker’s Notes
2020 – 5 Stars Platter (95), 96 CE, 96+ GS, 98 TA, 94 NM, 95 JS
There is a ‘brilliance’ to the colour of this wine, really purple with a red hue. Taken from four sites, 60% of the blend comes from the south of Heathcote and the remainder from the northern sites. Combination of American and French oak, 45% being new. Intense aromas of bright red fruits, chocolate and strawberry […]

Aged for 20 months in 63% seasoned French, 25% new French and 12% seasoned American oak hogsheads. Shawn Kalleske has composed a wonderful contemporary Barossa shiraz here. Compact, with excellent fruit purity, a super-ripe plum and blackberry […]
Add to cart Producer: Laughing JackAlmost black with a dark purple hue, yet the wine is bright, rich and seductive. 5% whole bunch here, adding a vibrant lift from the glass. The nose is all black pastel, charcoal, spice and red fruit compote. The palate has a wonderful electricity about it, with beautiful acids and a smooth finish. It’s full […]
Add to cart Producer: Wild Duck Creek“We Love Northern Rhone”, Skye Salter told me when tasting through their wines, and it shows, with notes of Charcuterie and coal dust. Otherwise it’s all McLaren Vale. Deep dark fruits, including blackcurrant, not often found in shiraz. Dark cherry, blackberry, violets, savoury spice, fresh compost, cured meats, pink peppercorn, soy, fennel and cardamon. Rich, […]
