“Vanguardist-farmed Rende vineyard bush vines, around 55 years old; 60% whole bunch, with about seven weeks on skins; matured in 2200L Slavonian oak. The cool vintage has its say. Refined, fragrant and elegant, but savoury and spicy, too. Distinct nebbiolo/nerello mascalese riffs, more the latter – an increasing theme at this address. Dried cranberry and cherry, freeze-dried raspberry and orange, from dehydrated peel to the bitter orange note in amaro, chinotto, Campari … five spice, clove, green cardamom, white pepper, alpine herbs, sour plum, dried mint, pressed flowers, warm terracotta. It’s finer of feel. Is it lesser for it? Nope. It’s laden with so much flavour and etched with ultra-fine but authoritative tannins and refreshing acidity. This also opens up and holds for days, suggesting a very bright future. So individual; so stunning.” – 97 Points, Halliday Wine Companion – Marcus Ellis

From several districts, off old, dry-grown bush vines. The ferments are all nuanced, but all are wild, and there is always some whole bunch; maturation for eight months in old French oak. Pale in hue and pretty in fragrance, such is the vintage. Flavours skip through cranberry, wild raspberry, pomegranate and rose, with white pepper […]

A tiny 0.41 ha strip of vines located at the bottom of Grand Cru Les Clos. More apparent wood is present on the otherwise similar nose. There is however more richness and volume to the slightly bigger-bodied and more concentrated flavors that also brim with sappy dry extract while exhibiting outstanding length on the powerful […]

From 1960s vines in Blewitt Springs planted to Holocene sand; 20% whole bunch, about 21 days on skins, then 10 months in an old 2500L foudre. There’s a compactness to this, a quietness on opening, fruit enmeshed presently, but there’s concentration, balance and prettiness within. Cranberry, ripe raspberry, damson plum, marasca cherry, some darker cherry, […]

There’s an understatement to this. That’s not meant as detriment. It’s the thing about Saltfleet, from a youthful pair that crammed in intense experience with top mentors. There’s a maturity to the wines, a lack of flashiness. They go to the heart of things swiftly. So, there’s a certain refinement. There’s a little reduction, too, […]
