“Vanguardist-farmed Rende vineyard bush vines, around 55 years old; 60% whole bunch, with about seven weeks on skins; matured in 2200L Slavonian oak. The cool vintage has its say. Refined, fragrant and elegant, but savoury and spicy, too. Distinct nebbiolo/nerello mascalese riffs, more the latter – an increasing theme at this address. Dried cranberry and cherry, freeze-dried raspberry and orange, from dehydrated peel to the bitter orange note in amaro, chinotto, Campari … five spice, clove, green cardamom, white pepper, alpine herbs, sour plum, dried mint, pressed flowers, warm terracotta. It’s finer of feel. Is it lesser for it? Nope. It’s laden with so much flavour and etched with ultra-fine but authoritative tannins and refreshing acidity. This also opens up and holds for days, suggesting a very bright future. So individual; so stunning.” – 97 Points, Halliday Wine Companion – Marcus Ellis

Another testament to the Smith touch, that rare ability to overdeliver without trying too hard. Black plums and blueberries; a fine, sour cherry edge. Sarsaparilla, dark earth, licorice, baked quince. Sucking copper coins through split lips. Plush and slippery on the palate, disciplined by beautifully gritty tannins. Spicy, complex florals, red and dark fruits, fresh compost and pipe tobacco. Rich and full bodied, with thoroughly defined curves, dripping with fruit, draped in silk. Like the Wait, there is a lovely tension between the sweet and savoury elements, with curry leaf, bitter chocolate and the silk , morphing into fine, sandy tannins. A […]

An awesome Barossa Grenache that stands apart from the pack. A compote of sweet red fruits layered with orange peel, earth, alpine herbs and sweet spice. Curvy and energetic, it carries a surprising sense of lightness despite its richness. Firm, fine tannins and a savoury edge bring tension and shape, pulling everything into focus. Distinctive, […]

‘Highly textural, well-composed and incredibly fresh, this has aromas of cherries, dried violets, peppercorns and baking spices. Medium-bodied, very refined and layered, showing fine-grained tannins. So much control in this vintage with silk to the crunchy fruit. Lively, bright and pristine. It has a mineral, lingering finish. Drink from 2028.’ 99 Points JamesSuckling.com Apr 2025 Click here […]
