“Vanguardist-farmed Rende vineyard bush vines, around 55 years old; 60% whole bunch, with about seven weeks on skins; matured in 2200L Slavonian oak. The cool vintage has its say. Refined, fragrant and elegant, but savoury and spicy, too. Distinct nebbiolo/nerello mascalese riffs, more the latter – an increasing theme at this address. Dried cranberry and cherry, freeze-dried raspberry and orange, from dehydrated peel to the bitter orange note in amaro, chinotto, Campari … five spice, clove, green cardamom, white pepper, alpine herbs, sour plum, dried mint, pressed flowers, warm terracotta. It’s finer of feel. Is it lesser for it? Nope. It’s laden with so much flavour and etched with ultra-fine but authoritative tannins and refreshing acidity. This also opens up and holds for days, suggesting a very bright future. So individual; so stunning.” – 97 Points, Halliday Wine Companion – Marcus Ellis

It’s a complex thing, with air unlocking layer after layer of detail. Freshly crushed bay laurel, dried cranberry, pickled cherries, orange peel, fading rose petals, bitter red aperitivo and mountain herbs, rolling into dry-warmed spices – cassia, clove and pepper – pink peppercorn, goji and sumac. It’s finely tooled, decidedly and energetically tannic, but not […]
Add to cart Producer: BulmanBeautiful lifted fragrance of lavender, sarsaparilla, cola, sweet cherry, potpourri and blackberry. The finest and most ethereal release ever of this wine, yet utterly different from the pinot-esque examples emanating from McLaren Vale. Silky flow, framed by deft tannins; the sweet red summer fruits counter-pointed by savoury soy and autumn compost. Very long, drawn out […]
Add to cart Producer: SwinneyUnusually for a Grenache the 2022 Mmad evolved and transformed itself so much over the 3 or so hours we tried. Floral with violets and geraniums, earthy notes, pine nettles, red fruit compote, milk chocolate, creaming soda, sage, mint and blacker fruits becoming more apparent the longer it’s open. What started out as a little […]
Add to cart Producer: MMADIt’s all about McLaren Vale Grenache at the moment, but the Barossa Valley should not be overlooked and Tim Smith’s iteration is one of the best, if not the best value from the entire valley. Incredible aromatics with a compote of English summer red fruits, blueberry, some blackcurrant. sweet spices and an almost Nebbiolo sensibility […]
