The Braemore Vineyard, planted in 1969, is widely considered one of the best vineyards in the Valley. It is in the Hunter Semillon dress circle on the sandy alluvial flats of Hermitage Road, Pokolbin. Thomas is one of about twelve producers, including Tyrrell’s, on this narrow, two-kilometre strip of ‘Grand Cru’ Semillon soil. Once an ancient sea floor, the deep, sandy loam soils are free-draining, allowing deep root penetration, which is perfect for the variety.
It’s universally accepted that the site produces some of the finest examples of classic Hunter Valley Semillon. It is particularly famed for producing wines of remarkable longevity. Andrew states, “The thing that sets Braemore apart, what gives it its longevity, is that extra level of intensity and concentration that comes from Semillon grown on this kind of soil.”
The various blocks within the Braemore vineyard were hand-picked in mid-February. Each batch was meticulously hand-sorted to ensure only the very best fruit went through for whole-bunch pressing (to minimise phenolic extraction). After fermentation, the wine spent five weeks on lees before bottling.

“100% pinot gris from Modewarre on the Surf Coast in Geelong. A bright salmon copper. The nose features an attractive amalgam of cranberries, freshly cut pear, Mediterranean herbs and a little honeydew melon. Just as good on the mouth-filling, savoury, pithy and long palate. Top stuff.” 95 Points – Philip Rich (Halliday Wine Companion) […]
Add to cartI love dry white Bordeaux, but alas the sort that I like, I can’t afford. To honest, I don’t care where it comes from and Chateau du Cedre are displaying the versatility of their terrior with these wine styles and varietals. Very classic aromatics of white flowers, Anzac biscuit, mirabelle plum, white an yellow peach, […]
Add to cart Producer: Chateau du CedreSensual and suave, with flavours I haven’t found in a Vat 1 before. Just when I thought I knew what to expect! Preserved lime, fresh lemon, cream, kiwifruit, gardenia and honeysuckle. Subtle and very young. This seems quite open, but I feel this will shut down soon and be the better for it. A wonderful […]
Add to cart Producer: Tyrrell'sAmong their many other talents, Chris and Andrea Mullineux are superb blenders. This cuvée of Chenin with Clairette, Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Semillon, Viura and Verdelho proves the point. Savoury, waxy and focused, with engaging minerality, fine texture and flavours of pear, peach and citrus peel. Drink date: 2022-2027. 95 Points – Tim Atkin, MW, timatkin.com, […]
