Sourced from east-facing blocks on red loam soil, planted in the ’70s. Volumes of peachy fruit, with melon accents dressed in a fragrant oak overlay. All the flavour is focused on the mid-palate. Clean and quiet on the close. 93 Points, Halliday Wine Companion
The Cote and Mangerton Vineyards sit side by side in the Brokenback Range foothills. Originally planted by Alfred Wilkinson and his son Charles in 1866, Mangerton was replanted by Max Drayton in 1978, focusing on Semillon and Chardonnay, with this Chardonnay sourced from east facing blocks on red loam soil. A modern Chardonnay with medium alcohol and lifted grapefruit/mango characters that follow on to the palate. 8 months in oak, none were new. A fine acid backbone. Producer’s Notes
