The 2022 The Standish Shiraz is again providing me with the opportunity to assess bottles two days apart, and how different they are. The freshly opened bottle, as we would all experience upon our first opening, is tight and fresh, with cracked fennel seed, black peppercorns, cumin and ras el’hanout, then dried blueberries and licorice, hints of arnica and raspberry. It’s cool and mineral, with a graphite finish. I cannot overstate how much better the wine tastes after two days. All of the edges smooth out, and it is composed and complete … what a wine. Balance and harmony in a single swoop. It’s savory, though. Super. 14.9% alcohol, sealed under natural cork and foil. 98 points – Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate

“Beautifully poised, cool expression of shiraz with concentrated but elegant dark cherry fruit and a subtle overlay of spice. A very good follow-up to the excellent 2022, which is drinking beautifully now.” – Max Allen (The Financial Review) Lambert’s Syrah continues to scale new heights. Picked four weeks later than in 2022, Lambert prefers […]
Add to cartThe power of blends is clearly evident and this was for me my favorite wine in the Tim Smith line up. The different grapes have complemented each other beautifully. Rich, juicy, hedonistic, fragrant and savory, the Mataro adding smoke, compost and firm, grippy tannins. Controlled power, the shiraz still comes through strongly, a mass of […]
Add to cart Producer: Tim Smith“We Love Northern Rhone”, Skye Salter told me when tasting through their wines, and it shows, with notes of Charcuterie and coal dust. Otherwise it’s all McLaren Vale. Deep dark fruits, including blackcurrant, not often found in shiraz. Dark cherry, blackberry, violets, savoury spice, fresh compost, cured meats, pink peppercorn, soy, fennel and cardamon. Rich, […]
Add to cartAlways the most overtly structured of the Yeringberg offerings, the 2018 vintage Shiraz has a tannic presence rarely seen in Australia. Medium bodied, tightly wound, and needing vigorous coaxing, when it does finally appear, the intensity of entry is worth the wait. Gripping the mouth with firm, coating tannins offering red fruits, blueberry, lavender, camphor, […]
