The SCHIST Syrah is grown on our Roundstone Estate in the Swartland, home of Mullineux. Planted in 2000, we have been working intimately with this vineyard since 2005 and it is the reason that we purchased the property. The structured SCHIST soils make for structured, broader tannins and create the darkest perfume of all our single soil Syrahs, with phenomenal aging potential.
This is the most structured Syrah in our Single Terroir range. On the nose there are notes of black pepper, black fruit and spices. The palate is full-bodied with a meaty, savoury character, plenty silky tannins giving structure and a balancing natural acidity. The finish is fresh, long and supple. Winemaker’s Notes
2020 – 5 Stars Platter (95), 96 CE, 96+ GS, 98 TA, 94 NM, 95 JS
Aromas of cherry, violet, plum, chocolate and woody notes. Intense and full bodied, a real attack of flavour. Enveloping with red fruits, the most in this lineup, blackberry, mulberry, chocolate, vanilla, fennel and wood char. Round in shape, fleshy and driven with lively acidity and lacey, chalky tannins. For all its size, this is remarkably […]
Add to cart Producer: Greenock CreekThe power of blends is clearly evident and this was for me my favorite wine in the Tim Smith line up. The different grapes have complemented each other beautifully. Rich, juicy, hedonistic, fragrant and savory, the Mataro adding smoke, compost and firm, grippy tannins. Controlled power, the shiraz still comes through strongly, a mass of […]
Add to cart Producer: Tim SmithThe Savage Red 2020 is a pure Syrah sourced exclusively from prime organically grown Stellenbosch vineyards planted on decomposed granite soils. The grapes were spontaneously fermented from wild yeasts using 50% whole clusters spending 3 to 4 weeks on skins. The wine spends 12 months in 500 litre barrels followed by a further 10 months […]
Add to cart Producer: SavageAs always, Bondar’s Violet Hour Shiraz is handpicked from the Rayner vineyard. A blend of block vines, both young and old (some up to 70 years old). Wild fermented naturally with a high portion of whole-bunches and matured in older French oak (no new barrels were used this year). The wine spent six months resting […]
