Miles Mossop Introduction Red 2020

$32.00

An unusual blend for an entry level South African red, 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Cinsault 11% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, all from Stellenbosch. And it works brilliantly. Aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, granite, blueberry, strawberry and fresh compost. Rich and succulent, round in shape and tightened by tangy fruits and powdery tannins. The Cabernet really comes through strongly with notes of black fruits, tobacco leaf and cedar. A thoroughly complete red. Waters Wine Co

Producer Profile

Miles Mossop released their first wines in 2004, sourcing all the fruit from exceptional vineyards across Stellenbosch. Time has broadened horizons and expanded the range, with Swartland fruit coming into the mix. This is very much the archetype of modern South African wine producers, with an emphasis on classic European styles and unique blends that are only found in South Africa.

The range is divided into three tiers. The Introduction range comprises a red and a white, bistro wines of exceptional expression and value.

The Chapters range is from potentially one-off parcels and is extremely limited, usually only around 500 bottles of each are made.

Finally the Family Range, named after Samantha and Miles Mossop’s children and other family members. Their first ever wine, Sakia is named after their eldest daughter and is a classic South African white blend. Max is a classic Bordeaux blend, the fruit sourced from Paarl and Stellenbosch. Kika a late harvest botrytis chenin blanc of remarkable freshness and delicacy considering the 180g/l of residual sugar.

Low yields, old vines and great sites are the beginning and the heart of Miles Mossop wines. Grapes are handpicked and sorted. Natural fermentation, no additions accept sulphur, and bottled without fining or filtration. They are richly flavoured wines of freshness, detail, weight and texture, yet with an uncanny ability to deliver fine tannins and precise structures.
