This wine is made from grapes grown on a terroir near the village of Le Castellet. The vineyard sits high up on the hillside, on average 170m above sea level, and has relatively homogenous soil comprised of chalk and clay on top of 100 million year old rock. The Mourvedre vines flourish on this terroir producing excellent wines that are powerful, tannic and fruity. La Tourtine comprises 70–80% Mourvedre depending on the year. Frequently windswept by the mistral, this vineyard is particularly well exposed, resulting in a wine with long ageing potential that retains its red berry and spice aromas even after 10 to 15 years. Producer’s Note
Mainly Mourvèdre (85%), with Cinsault and Grenache, the 2020 Bandol la Tourtine was still in foudre at the time of my visit last year. Scents of cola, smoke and red berries provide ample complexity on the nose, while the medium to full-bodied palate is concentrated and almost creamy in texture while remaining fresh and dynamic on the lengthy finish.’ 94-96 Points, Joe Czerwinski, eRobertParker.com, Feb 2023
A 50:50 blend of Touriga Nacional and Syrah from Malgas. 10% whole-bunch fermentation. Some flinty reduction before red and black berries, lavender, fresh herbs and pepper on the nose while the palate has great structure and balance – a dense core of fruit matched by driving acidity and tannins that are firm in the best […]
Add to cart Producer: SavageAre blends better than single varietals? This Cabernet Syrah would certainly stoke the fires of debate, and I would have loved the opportunity to taste the unblended varietals. Very refined, in the claret vein, balanced poised, powerful and graceful. Stunning flavours of violets, plum, blackcurrant, raspberry, tobacco and cream. Terrific shape, across an even plane, […]
Add to cart Producer: SwinneyUsually my favourite wine in the range and one for those in any doubt about the efficacy of blends. A 60/40 blend of Grenache and Shiraz. Essentially a barrel selection of the juiciest and brightest fruit for early drinking, but this will nevertheless cruise through 10 years and plenty more. Expressive, so McLaren Vale with […]
Add to cart Producer: ParalianTerrific vibrancy, freshness and complexity. Sweet and tangy red and black fruits, the fruit high toned and elevated. medium bodied and lip smacking, the fruit tensioned by floral notes, serrano and fresh compost notes. As easy as it is to drink, this is still a wine of seriousness, with mineral velvet tannins of caress and […]
