This has long been one of Olivier Lamy’s finest reds. It comes from just under a hectare of vines on the lower slope of Derrière chez Edouard, where the soils have more clay and have historically been planted to Pinot. In fact, the vines here are over 50 years old and give very small, ripe and intensely flavoured bunches that produce a deep, layered wine. The 2022 is a beauty, with sweet fruit suggesting macerated strawberry and blackcurrant, again complemented by sweet spice. It has the same linear texture we find in the whites; however, there is an ethereal finesse across the palate that is all its own.
“Also a large scale to this aroma – but in this case with extra floral perfume – fine freshness too. Plenty of volume in the mouth, and with a little extra creamy depth to this fruit flavour – I like this flavour even more than that of the Goujonne. Also great but you can drink this earlier than the Goujonne…” Bill Nanson, Burgundy Report
“The 2022 Saint-Aubin Derrière Chez Edouard 1er Cru (Rouge) comes from 50- to 60-year-old vines that produce smaller berries. This has an exquisite bouquet with wild strawberry, crushed stone and wild hedgerow. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins. The stems impart noticeable pepperiness that defines the finish at the moment. Give this time in bottle.” 92 points, Neal Martin, Vinous

Beautiful pinot noir from Castle Rock, tasted alongside several older vintages, affirming their great aging potential. A difficult hot year 2023, it’s had to believe that such as pure, supple and translucent wine could be forged from such difficulty. Medium bodied, with the black and hedge fruits mashed with licorice, mace, fennel, pink peppercorns and […]
Add to cart Producer: Castle Rock EstateA bright crimson red. After a few good few swirls, aromas of ripe raspberries, black cherries, wild herbs and some crushed violets soon emerge. The palate, though, doesn’t need much coaxing, and this silken, sappy wine has excellent depth and persistence. Will be even better six to 12 months from now. 96 points – Philip […]

Add to cart Producer: Michel LafargeClassic Tasmanian pinot noir from a great year. Complex red summer fruits. Floral, roses and lavender, with sweet and savoury spice, compost, pine needles and smoke. Plenty of volume and shape, the fruit succulent and juicy – balanced by darker, savoury elements. So much textural flavour complexity, the wine a shape shifter in the glass. […]
