The 2015 Les Jardins de Babylone is simply outstanding; layered and pulpy with ripe stone fruit shot through with crystalline grapefruit and orange rind freshness. Deep and yet somehow delicate and fresh, it is both a wine that will live for decades but a wonderful drink now! A release that easily justifies the claim, often made, that this is one of the world’s great sweet wines.
Made in tiny quantities from ridiculously low yields of 100% Petit Manseng, this offers all the purity and precision of Dagueneau’s greatest wines. The pricing reflects the costs of making the wine (via a berry-by-berry selection despite the fact that no botrytis is involved here). To arrive there, Didier previously claimed he simply totalled up the cost of the project each year and divided it by the number of bottles made. Sounds logical enough! The low yields and the warmth of the site means Les Jardins de Babylone can be picked as early as late October; a full month before the grapes for conventional Jurançon moelleux are picked. Even so, the wine usually ends up with approximately 125g/L residual sugar, perfectly balanced by mouth-watering, tangy acidity, rendering a wine with fabulous verve and drive.

Deep, bright red-purple colour; the bouquet likewise bright and fresh, initially with a high-note of freshly-sawn oak, which dissipated somewhat with time in the glass. The palate is bright, intense and elegantly weighted, just making the full-bodied weight category. It’s quite oaky but has good approachability, medium-long carry, and the tannins are ample and very […]
Add to cartHands down, the best value bistro wine we have tasted from anywhere. Sweet and tangy compote of red, blue and black fruits. Super bright palate, juicy, with gentle spice, refreshing acidity, silky mouthfeel and a squeeze of powdery tannins. Utterly drinkable, versatile and there’s a serious side too. Absolute bargain. Waters Wine Co Organic. Marcoux’s […]
Add to cartClassic Tempranillo flavours of cherry cola, sarsaparilla, blue/black fruits and dried flowers. Juicy and vibrant, with a touch of sage. Tight, tight needing time in the glass to unwind. Immensely satisfying wine. Waters Wine Co. Intense aromas of dark cherries, spiced plums, and cinnamon spice are intertwined with hints of violets, cedar, and graphite. […]
Add to cartHenriques’ entry wines are very handy stand-by bottles for the fridge. They are predominantly made from Tinta Negra Mole—with 10% to 20% of Sercial, Verdelho or Malvasia depending on the age and style. There is a unique and sophisticated Estufa process used: the wines are slowly allowed to warm to 45ºC before being left to […]
