“Braemore is a distinctive vineyard, and this is a distinctive wine. For a semillon, this is uncharacteristically fruity, with feijoa and passionfruit notes wrapped around a Tahitian lime core. The fullness of the palate is captivating, as is the intensity of the flavour. A joyous wine with great character and appeal.” 96 Points – Toni Paterson MW, Halliday Wine Companion
“Very fragrant nose: citrus blossoms and fruits, fresh herbs, gently yeasty; the palate shows a wonderful combination of concentration and refinement. It has more richness and generosity than other 2023 semillons without sacrificing delicacy. Long finish. Seriously promising young semillon.” 95 Points – Huon Hooke, The Real Review
The Braemore Vineyard, planted in 1969, is widely considered one of the best vineyards in the Valley. It is in the Hunter Semillon dress circle on the sandy alluvial flats of Hermitage Road, Pokolbin. Thomas is one of about twelve producers, including Tyrrell’s, on this narrow, two-kilometre strip of ‘Grand Cru’ Semillon soil. Once an ancient sea floor, the deep, sandy loam soils are free-draining, allowing deep root penetration, which is perfect for the variety. It’s universally accepted that the site produces some of the finest examples of classic Hunter Valley Semillon. It is particularly famed for producing wines of remarkable longevity. Andrew states, “The thing that sets Braemore apart, what gives it its longevity, is that extra level of intensity and concentration that comes from Semillon grown on this kind of soil.”
The various blocks within the Braemore vineyard were hand-picked in mid-February. Each batch was meticulously hand-sorted to ensure only the very best fruit went through for whole-bunch pressing (to minimise phenolic extraction). After fermentation, the wine spent five weeks on lees before bottling.

The 2021 Monument lives up to its name (having previously been labelled “La Colline”). This is a great Semillon, perhaps a step up from the 2020. Yellow plum and honeysuckle intermingle with dried apricot and a very light, cereal-like note on the nose. The palate is well balanced with a slight flor-like note on the […]
Add to cart Producer: Alheit Vineyards2022 is another great Hunter vintage. Fleshy, citrus fruit – lemon zest and juicy lime. Classic Hunter Semillon with a softer edge, making this an earlier drinking beauty but one that will still cellar for a decade or more. Waters Wine Co Sourced from a small selection of Tyrrells’ favourite Semillon blocks, the grapes […]

The soil is a layer cake of calcareous (Thanetian) sand over clay, over more calcareous sand. Inherited from Jérôme’s grandmother, the site was planted in the 1960s with an old, slow-growing, less […]

The latest rendition of Egly’s emblematic NV Brut Grand Cru is based on the 2016 vintage, and it was disgorged in spring 2021 with only one gram per liter dosage. Wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, crisp stone fruit, wheat toast and citrus oil mingled with hints of white flowers and praline, it’s […]
