Sourced from 25 year old vines in the Grand Cru of Goldtropfchen and aged in Fuder, this is quite simply the best dry riesling at this price in the Mosel. Goldtropfchen is a large and diverse Grosse Lage. It’s gradient, exposure, soils, proximity to the river and elevation is variable, and so is capable of making the greatest variety of wine styles of all the top sites in the Mosel. Quality isn’t so much as variable, for it is a very great vineyard, but some sections will make less compelling dry wines for example, than others. That being said, the wines tend to have a breadth and richness uncommon in the Mosel, and a dark and very complex fruit profile. This is very open in style, as all of Julien’s wines are, with pithy citrus, cream, passionfruit butter, gardenia, quince, earth, smoke and some peach skin grip. Wave upon wave of flavour, fleshy fruit, tension and salt. Ravishing, utterly naked and beautiful, without artifice, just volumes of mouthwatering lusciousness. The greatest riesling maker of them all? Waters Wine Co
“There is general consensus in the informed wine world that the former star pupil of Klaus Peter Keller is one of the greatest talents of the German wine industry in the last 20 years.” – Jancis Robinson MW

Intense aromatics of passionfruit, lime, blackcurrant, cherry, stone fruits, honey, mustard and savoury spice. Dense, concentrated, in fact, perhaps the deepest core of power that I have tasted in an Australian Riesling. Expansive palate, direct in flavour, precise scaffold, chalky texture and that width! There is so much hidden here, so much pleasure to come. […]

This cuvée is a blend of fruit from high altitude sites dotted around the village. This includes the brilliantly named Sandgrub vineyard, but also a good dollop of wine from Wasseros (a steep, southwest-facing vineyard that abuts the Gräfenberg vines). The soils of these sites are typically composed of stony, fragmented phyllite interlaced with loess and loam. Raised entirely in […]

Waters Wine Co Very ripe lemon character and an elegant harmony of restrained power, ripe acidity and a subtle chalky minerality that build at the long polished finish. […]

91 Points – “Lovely, floral delicacy with plenty of fine garden-herb notes on the nose. Sleek and linear, this is intensely mineral at the long, clean finish. The name means “from gray slate”. Just 11.5% alcohol.” Stephan Reinhardt, The Wine Advocate 91 Points/Outstanding – “The 2020er Riesling vom grauen Schiefer, as it is referred to […]
