Sourced from 25 year old vines in the Grand Cru of Goldtropfchen and aged in Fuder, this is quite simply the best dry riesling at this price in the Mosel. Goldtropfchen is a large and diverse Grosse Lage. It’s gradient, exposure, soils, proximity to the river and elevation is variable, and so is capable of making the greatest variety of wine styles of all the top sites in the Mosel. Quality isn’t so much as variable, for it is a very great vineyard, but some sections will make less compelling dry wines for example, than others. That being said, the wines tend to have a breadth and richness uncommon in the Mosel, and a dark and very complex fruit profile. This is very open in style, as all of Julien’s wines are, with pithy citrus, cream, passionfruit butter, gardenia, quince, earth, smoke and some peach skin grip. Wave upon wave of flavour, fleshy fruit, tension and salt. Ravishing, utterly naked and beautiful, without artifice, just volumes of mouthwatering lusciousness. The greatest riesling maker of them all? Waters Wine Co
“There is general consensus in the informed wine world that the former star pupil of Klaus Peter Keller is one of the greatest talents of the German wine industry in the last 20 years.” – Jancis Robinson MW

This cuvée is a blend of fruit from high altitude sites dotted around the village. This includes the brilliantly named Sandgrub vineyard, but also a good dollop of wine from Wasseros (a steep, southwest-facing vineyard that abuts the Gräfenberg vines). The soils of these sites are typically composed of stony, fragmented phyllite interlaced with loess and loam. Raised entirely in […]

Aromas of citrus blossom, jasmine, and mineral on the nose. Notes of preserved lemon, under-ripened pear and kafir lime follow through on the palate. A slight note of talc, persists with a full mouth-feel and continuous acid. 5 months maturation on fine lees in oak prior to bottling. Halliday Winery of the Year 2023 […]

Essentially a monopole of the estate, with new high density plantings. A high, cool vineyard of granite, very steep and surrounded by woodland. The sparse and rocky soils a pivot point towards finesse, and although the wines are rich, full bodied and shapely, they are slightly more discreet, elegant, linear and fine. Brioche notes, […]

Highly perfumed – nashi pear, gardenia and yuzu lift from the glass, with flashes of lime, guava and tropical fruit. The palate is both crisp and textural, with a fine, talc-like mineral slip. Sweet-edged apple and guava meet spice, almond and a touch of richness, all cut by a bright, electric line of acidity. Long, […]
