Domaine Barmes-Buecher Riesling Clos Sand Lieux Dits 2019

$85.00

Essentially a monopole of the estate, with new high density plantings. A high, cool vineyard of granite, very steep and surrounded by woodland. The sparse and rocky soils a pivot point towards finesse, and although the wines are rich, full bodied and shapely, they are slightly more discreet, elegant, linear and fine. Brioche notes, cherry, blackcurrant, mint, candied lemon, lemon oil, smoke and grapefruit. Deep, concentrated, spicy, round shape, yet focused and bracing. Very fine and the textural grip is spice driven and finer than in the other wines. I have a feeling that as the vines mature, we may see the estates greatest wines coming from this site. Light straw-yellow colour; the bouquet is reserved and shy, savoury and more speaking of almond and toasted bread and nuts than floral varietal scents. The wine is quite full in the mouth, rich and dry, savoury and long, with breadth as well as length. Refreshing acidity lasts. A fuller and less refined style, generous and rewarding, the effect of barrel time apparent in the aroma/flavour spectrum as well as the mouth-feel. 12.5%. 93 Points – Huon Hooke, The Real Review

94 Points – Gary Wash, The Winefront
