Place of Changing Winds Larderdark Chardonnay 2024
A very deep, powerful, yet vibrant Chardonnay that needed a long time (30 months) to come around and get ready for bottling. The extremely yields were minuscule, which helps explain the concentration, huge drive, intense freshness and length. The wine was fermented (both primary and full malolactic) in both 228-litre barrique casks and Wineglobe (glass). Aging was for 22 months in barrel and globe, and then a further 8 months in tank before bottling without fining or filtration. It has only recently been bottled. We’re expecting a long life for this tiny release.
Place of Changing Winds Between Two Mountains Pinot Noir 2024
The 2024 Between Two Mountains is one of the finest and most seductive Pinot Noirs we’ve produced so far. It comes from several high-density parcels (between 10k/ha and 25k/ha), including those that sometimes produce our Beyond The Forest cuvée. You can expect a fleshy yet vibrant, complex and hedonistic Pinot. Although it’s powerful, it’s also a wine of great perfume and finesse, and it’s already approachable (although it will certainly age well). It was matured for nearly 30 months: the first two years in oak, then 6 months in tank, all the while building depth and complexity. We used a range of barrel sizes (228, 300, and 600 litres), with around 20% new. As always, no fining and no filtration.
Place of Changing Winds High Density Pinot Noir 2024
High Density is only released in the very best years, with the last release being 2021. Although all of our wines are high-density, this is based on our closest-planted vines (20k/ha and 33k/ha), with the fermenter topped up with some neighbouring vines if need be.
Fermentation in 2024 was in a large wooden Stockinger cask, with the cap submerged. It was a short and fast ferment (as it was for all our Pinot), and only 10% whole bunch was used. The resulting wine is a Pinot of great purity, singularity, perfume and very fine tannins. As always, this is much more tightly wound than the more seductive Between Two Mountains. It will really benefit from some aging, at least five years. If you drink it young, just take your time and give it a gentle decant to help it open. It was aged in barriques and bottled after 24 months with no fining or filtration.

A tiny 0.41 ha strip of vines located at the bottom of Grand Cru Les Clos. More apparent wood is present on the otherwise similar nose. There is however more richness and volume to the slightly bigger-bodied and more concentrated flavors that also brim with sappy dry extract while exhibiting outstanding length on the powerful […]

Entirely from a single block, two clones of Chardonnay were sourced from Block 4, which resides on an east-facing slope with views back towards the Clarence House homestead and Mt Rumney. Picked in the first days of April, whole-bunch pressed and allowed to ferment wild in a combination of tank and old French oak puncheons. […]
