As always, Bannockburn’s Chardonnay is drawn mostly from the Estate’s Olive Tree Hill Vineyard (planted in 1976) and Winery Block (1981), which are on volcanic soils over limestone. Average vine age around 35 years. More recently, the Estate Chardonnay now includes fruit from the Kelly Lane Vineyard (Clone 76).
Whole-bunch pressed and settled overnight. Wild-fermented in 500-litre French oak puncheons (20% new), with 60% undergoing malolactic. Ten months on lees with minimal stirring and no sulphur added until bottling. The wine opens bright and floral with lovely citrussy freshness cutting through the stone fruit generosity of the palate. Tapers to a beautiful savoury close backed by that classic Bannockburn salinity.

Lamy farms four small parcels on the white limestone soils of Les Chataigners. Tucked up at the far end of the village on the Finage de Saint-Aubin, this site is his highest and coolest vineyard, with vines planted in 1990 and 2008. The fruit is whole bunch-pressed and ferments spontaneously before being raised in older barrels. This […]

Add to cart Producer: Fabien CocheA great introduction to the estate, very much of their style and what one tends to expect from these parts. Lovely lift, with lemon, lime preserve, savoury spice, white flowers and yellow fruits. Pulpy and juicy, thoroughly abundant, with cream, spice some citrus zest, mandarin and white peach. Good energy to balance the satiny richness. […]
Add to cart Producer: Saumaize-MichelinFrom a tiny patch of vines within Smith’s vineyard. More new wood here and longer time in barrel, so it’s essentially classically styled and not a ‘contemporary’ expression as the other chardonnays are. Beautifully pure aromas of spring jasmine, honeycomb, mandarin, yellow and white peach and very fine oak. Very deep, brooding, fleshy, a masterclass […]
