Previous Base. “The NV (2016) Les Vignes de Bisseuil races out of the glass, showing terrific energy and cut. White flowers, pear, mint, white pepper and lemon peel give the 2016 notable brightness to complement its mid-weight, focused personality. All the elements come together so well in this beautifully expressive Champagne, another new addition to the range. Dosage is 3 grams per liter. Disgorged: July, 2021. 92 points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous
Vintages: 2017 (60%), 2016 (40%), Bottling: 2018, Disgorgement: July 2022, Time on lees: 48 months.
This is only the second release of Egly’s Chardonnay dominant cuvée. It comes from a plot of vines on the south-facing slopes of Bisseuil, a village just to the east of the famous Grand Cru communes of Aÿ and Mareuil-sur-Aÿ. While these villages are more renowned for Pinot Noir, Bisseuil is the only village in the area that has more Chardonnay than Pinot Noir in its vineyards. That’s why the blend here is 70% Chardonnay with 15% Pinot Noir and 15% Pinot Meunier. The Egly Bisseuil vines cover 1.5 hectares and span two lieux-dits. They have now been farmed by the Egly family for more than seven years—Francis and Annick Egly purchased these vines in anticipation of their children Clémence and Charles joining the domaine. The vine age averages 40 years. Les Vignes de Bisseuil was vinified entirely in barrel and spent four years in the cellar prior to the disgorgement (with two grams per litre dosage).
This is again a fascinating contrast to the rest of the range. As you might expect, it has a much more ‘Chardonnay’ personality with lovely white peach, lemon curd, fresh butter and almond-oil characters. Although these elements suggest richness, the wine is in fact bright and full of energy, with a powdery, pithy close. It has all the thrilling tension and vinous texture for which this great grower is renowned. It will only benefit from another six-to-twelve months in bottle.

Tiny volumes produced and hardly any made available for the Australian market. Pure pure, with fruit of English strawberry, cherry, cranberry, redcurrant, blueberry and blackcurrant. Lovely tension between the sweetness of fruit and the more savoury elements. There is a faint texture derived from the tannin and the Champagne’s naturally buoyant acidity, lends weight and […]
Add to cart Producer: Veuve Fourny & FilsThe latest rendition of Agrapart’s NV Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Terroirs is excellent. Based on the 2018 vintage, with fully 60% reserve wines from 2017 (some 40% of which mature in wood), it’s medium to full-bodied, seamless and chiseled, evocative of citrus oil, buttered toast, mint and fresh bread. It derives from […]
Add to cart Producer: AgrapartHand-picked. The immaculate fruit is gently pressed and fermented in small oak casks. As the juices are transformed into wines, they rest quietly in the underground chalk cellars until the following spring. The wines undergo ‘battonage’ or lees stirring to encourage the lees to release some of their lovely aromatics. On tirage for 4 years. […]
Add to cart Producer: Veuve Fourny & FilsI like to drink Champagne, like any other wine and to not sip. I critique Champagne no differently to any other wine, the attributes of concentration, complexity of flavour, textural evenness, length of presence and the harmony of elements. So when I tasted Gosset’s Celebris Rose 2008, I knew instantly I was in the presence […]
