2017 is the first ever release of the Mother’s Shiraz. It has an intense aromatic profile that is very true to the Tyrrell’s style with an abundance of summer fruits. The palate is fresh and juicy with only the subtle influence of oak.
Mother’s vineyard is situated adjacent to Chris and Tegan Tyrrell’s house and has always been known as Mother’s after Murray Tyrrell’s mother who lived there. This block was replanted in 2010 with cuttings from 4 Acres, Johnno’s and Old Patch ensuring that Tyrrell’s best Shiraz vineyard clones are preserved.
The 2017 growing season was one of the best in recent memory and has produced wines of the highest quality. Solid rains in winter and spring meant the vines had constant access to water and the warmer weather in the new year meant all of the fruit was in near perfect condition and ripeness when harvested. The Mother’s was the last Shiraz of the vintage to be harvested. Handpicked and made in the same fashion as Tyrrell’s other top Shiraz wines. Matured in a single three-year-old French oak cask (2700L) for 15 months.

Sourced from 22-year-old vines on the lower end of the east-north-east slope, the Crudo bottling channels all the vivid, savoury Rhône-like appeal Luke searches for while delivering plenty of delicious, drink-me-now appeal. This year, just 10% bunches were included in the ferment to avoid overcrowding the spicy blueberry flavours and fine, granite-derived tannins, and the […]
Add to cart Producer: Lambert WinesVery deep colour and remarkably vivid considering the presumably long period in wood. There is bright purple towards the rim, fading from the deep blackness of the core, suggesting the inclusion of whole bunches. Intense aromatics, florals, black fruits, sweet and savoury spice. It’s not overly complex at present but the flavours are utterly captivating […]
Add to cart Producer: Standish Wine CoTerrific rendition of Greenock Creek’s rich and opulent flavours. Full bodied, with black fruits, some sweet raspberry, sumac, cinnamon and wood spice. Round in shape, it’s not heavy and is surprisingly light on it’s feet. Despite all the apparent presence and flavour, there’s a youthful brightness, conveyed by the fine, soft tannins. Lovely focus and […]
Add to cart Producer: Laughing JackA blend of Grenache, Cinsault and Syrah, the exact proportions closely guarded, this delivers exactly what we’ve come to expect from this wine. The consistent elements of Redskin lolly are there, with strawberries, cream, some bittering grapefruit rind balance, a brush of garrigue herbs, all wrapped up in a slightly oily, generous texture. Vintage 2023 […]
