The 2022 The Standish Shiraz is again providing me with the opportunity to assess bottles two days apart, and how different they are. The freshly opened bottle, as we would all experience upon our first opening, is tight and fresh, with cracked fennel seed, black peppercorns, cumin and ras el’hanout, then dried blueberries and licorice, hints of arnica and raspberry. It’s cool and mineral, with a graphite finish. I cannot overstate how much better the wine tastes after two days. All of the edges smooth out, and it is composed and complete … what a wine. Balance and harmony in a single swoop. It’s savory, though. Super. 14.9% alcohol, sealed under natural cork and foil. 98 points – Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate

The Savage Red 2020 is a pure Syrah sourced exclusively from prime organically grown Stellenbosch vineyards planted on decomposed granite soils. The grapes were spontaneously fermented from wild yeasts using 50% whole clusters spending 3 to 4 weeks on skins. The wine spends 12 months in 500 litre barrels followed by a further 10 months […]
Add to cart Producer: SavageThe 2017 Old Hut Shiraz has an enticing nose of dark berry fruits and lifted spice. It’s a dense, more brooding style of Shiraz compared to the Tyrrell’s 4 Acres. Yet it still shows the pedigree of its lineage with superb balance and length. The Old Hut vineyard was planted in 2003 with cuttings taken […]
Add to cart Producer: Tyrrell'sThere is a ‘brilliance’ to the colour of this wine, really purple with a red hue. Taken from four sites, 60% of the blend comes from the south of Heathcote and the remainder from the northern sites. Combination of American and French oak, 45% being new. Intense aromas of bright red fruits, chocolate and strawberry […]

Shiraz/Syrah and Australia. It just works. The 2021 is quiet different from previous releases; rounder in shape, ample with finer, lacier tannins. Not so sleek or linear and a dialling back of the mouth puckering mineral acidity. Blueberry, sweet cherry, violets, raspberry and delicate spice. Plush, without any sense of heaviness, a triumph of a […]
