Grenache is all the fashion in the McLaren Vale these days, including some beautiful blends of which Saltfleet’s GSM is one. This is a delightful homage to McLaren Vale, with ripe red and black fruits, violets, chocolate, sweet and savoury spice and pipe tobacco. Texturally complex with a combination of silk, fluffy lanolin and cashmere. Pure, curvy and juicy, with a great depth of flavour and an overall impression of great polish. Triumphant wine, and an absolute bargain.
A blend of three distinctive parcels: Grenache from Blewitt Springs, Shiraz from Ingoldby Road, and Mataro from Sellicks Hill. The result is a wine of depth and balance, with a richly layered flavour profile. Aromas of red cherry, warm spice, and subtle hints of leather lead into a concentrated palate. The tannins are structured and fine, giving way to a long, nuanced, and satisfying finish. – Saltfleet

Locals of McLaren Vale, Jonny Cook and Kyle Egel met at high school, forming a vinous bond that has morphed into Saltfleet. The fruit’s local too, sourced from some of the finest sites in the region. The wines are handled minimally and gently, made in such tiny quantities (just a single barrel for most of the reds), the fruit has to be perfect and the winemaking on point. And so it is.
These are classically styled wines, a homage to McLaren Vale and a nod to the future with newer varietals to the region such as Fiano, Chenin Blanc and Touriga Nacional among the range. Richly fruited, succulent, vibrant, curvaceous and with great movement, Saltfleet are only a few vintages in and already making great wines with humble resources. No doubt about it, a star or two is born.
