Chateau Les Paruades 2020

$32.00

From the Château Maucamps stable, this is a maturing, classy and wonderfully complex Bordeaux that punches well above its price. De-stemmed and fermented in stainless steel and concrete before 12 months’ maturation in tank, it has a beautifully fresh, composed feel. Blackberry and blackcurrant lead the way, with impressive depth and concentration balanced by vibrant acidity and a long, persistent finish. Refined and polished, with the complexity and poise you’d expect from a much more expensive Bordeaux, it offers remarkable quality and sophistication for the money.

AOC Bordeaux Supérieur. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, from a 3.5 hectare plot on palus closer to Château Maucamps.

Producer Profile

Imperious Latour. Many have described Chateau Latour as the greatest vineyard in the world and under the current direction of Frederic Engerer and owner Francois Pinault there is a determination to make the greatest wine possible. Chateau Latour no longer sells their wines en primeur, choosing to wait until they are deemed ready. Three wines are produced here and amongst the First Growths, this is perhaps the grandest and most consistent line up. The Grand Vin makes up roughly a third of production, the ‘second’ wine, Les Forts de Latour, a little more and the ‘third’ wine, Pauillac de Latour, roughly a quarter.

It is important to note that the second and third wines are not baby Latours. They are individual wines in their own right, coming from different parts of the vineyard to the Grand Vin and possessing a different varietal makeup. Latour has been groundbreaking in this insistence, not wishing to yield the quality of the Grand Vin and not making a fetish of the estate’s style either. Forts and Pauillac de Latour are wonderful wines, the incomparable quality of the estate an iron-fisted gauntlet of pleasure.
