Dr Edge Barrique Pinot Noir 2025

$60.00

Lovely to taste a Tassie Pinot with weight, colour and heft, yet for all that, it still sits at around 12% alcohol. A darker fruit profile, with glacé cherry, cassis, raspberry, cranberry and violets. Richer and fuller, with that extra width, heft and structure associated with barrel ageing. Woodsmoke, lavender tea, fresh compost and Middle Eastern spices add complexity, while the tannins are loose-knit and juicy. It’s gorgeous now, showier than the concrete-matured wine, and best enjoyed over the next five years.

With 60% from Meadowbank in the Derwent Valley, 40% from Chartley Estate in the Tamar Valley, pied de cuve, 30% whole bunch, pressed to seasoned barrique for nine months on lees. Bright red cherry, cranberry and raspberry fruits veiled in Medina spice, gentle biscuity oak nuance, charcuterie, poached rhubarb, cinnamon and earth. Finely structured with powdery, toothsome tannins, a dusting of wood spice and a long stretch of flavour on the exit. 95 points – Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion

Producer Profile

After a decade at Petaluma, Peter Dredge moved to Tasmania in 2010, spending five years as chief winemaker at Bay of Fires before launching Dr Edge in 2015. Focused on cool-climate Tasmanian Chardonnay and Pinot Noir – still wines and traditional method sparkling – the project sources fruit from select sites, including the Coal River Valley.

Dredge’s wines have quickly built a cult following: distinctive, expressive, and uncompromising in quality, with a style that’s as recognisable as the labels themselves.
