Riggs & Wiggs Mangerton Vineyard Block 1 Semillon 2024

$35.00

The vines at the Mangerton vineyard were planted in 1978 using cuttings from the 1899 plantings on Oakey Creek Road. Block 1, with its clay loam soils and steep, south-facing slope, produces a powerful semillon with impressive flavour depth. The nose is expressive, revealing notes of lemon, quinine and juniper, alongside a whisper of white flowers. The palate is linear and focused, with gentle weight, breadth and texture. It opens beautifully with air and shows good ageing potential. 95 Points, Halliday Wine Companion

Semillon, the traditional white grape of the Hunter Valley, was first planted at Mangerton Vineyard by Alfred Wilkinson and his eldest son, Charles, in 1866. Max Drayton replanted in 1978 using cuttings from the 1899 Semillon vines on Oakey Creek Road. Block 1 is on a south facing, clay loam slope. Bright green/yellow colour, with lime and tropical fruit flavours. Perfect for long term cellaring. Producer’s Notes
