Sourced from 25 year old vines in the Grand Cru of Goldtropfchen and aged in Fuder, this is quite simply the best dry riesling at this price in the Mosel. Goldtropfchen is a large and diverse Grosse Lage. It’s gradient, exposure, soils, proximity to the river and elevation is variable, and so is capable of making the greatest variety of wine styles of all the top sites in the Mosel. Quality isn’t so much as variable, for it is a very great vineyard, but some sections will make less compelling dry wines for example, than others. That being said, the wines tend to have a breadth and richness uncommon in the Mosel, and a dark and very complex fruit profile. This is very open in style, as all of Julien’s wines are, with pithy citrus, cream, passionfruit butter, gardenia, quince, earth, smoke and some peach skin grip. Wave upon wave of flavour, fleshy fruit, tension and salt. Ravishing, utterly naked and beautiful, without artifice, just volumes of mouthwatering lusciousness. The greatest riesling maker of them all? Waters Wine Co
“There is general consensus in the informed wine world that the former star pupil of Klaus Peter Keller is one of the greatest talents of the German wine industry in the last 20 years.” – Jancis Robinson MW
Intense, with all the breadth, power and grandeur we have come to associate with Clemens Busch. Full bodied, with citrus, stone fruits, lemon zest, smoke, nettles a mineral puckering close. Full of dry extract, it’s hard to imagine anyone else getting so much “feel” to the palate, whilst maintaining an astonishing level of clarity. Giant […]

Fermented in a ceramic egg and left on lees for ten months. The nose is a combination of dried chamomile and bath salts, with some yuzu and bergamot citrus elements. A juiciness with fruit tingle acidity dominates the palate, backed by a refreshing crunch and wet chalk, almost quinine-like bitterness tidying up the finish. Winemaker’s […]

Then comes the wide-screen palate that’s packed with ripe fruit, but still quite tight on the long, very precise finish. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drinkable now, but better from 2022. 93 Points – […]

Typical of the vintage, the 2021 has that extra level of concentration. White flowers, mandarin oil, lemon zest and juicy ripe limes. Texturally, there is a chalky/salty mineral feel, that really lifts the finish. Precise, elegant, detailed […]
