Saltfleet Chenin Blanc 2024

$35.00

Chenin Blanc is an adaptive variety that originated in the Loire Valley of France. Grown by the Brini Family in Blewitt Springs, a deep sandy soiled site. Barrel fermented and kept on lees for 6 weeks. This Chenin is a medium bodied textured wine with juicy stone fruit and a soft finish. The perfect wine to be accompanied with a fresh seafood dish. – Saltfleet

From the Brini vineyard, Blewitt Springs. This was barrel fermented and raised on full lees for eight weeks, which has built textural sway and rounded out fruit flavours without loss of energetic fruitfulness and brisk drive. Lemon balm, coolly ripe peach, green apple, Bosc pear, sea spray and a little herbal note, a bit like bison grass. The mouthfeel and tension are à point, the chalky grip to close a welcome complexity. There are excellent things happening at this address. 93 points – Halliday Wine Companion

Producer Profile

Locals of McLaren Vale, Jonny Cook and Kyle Egel met at high school, forming a vinous bond that has morphed into Saltfleet. The fruit’s local too, sourced from some of the finest sites in the region. The wines are handled minimally and gently, made in such tiny quantities (just a single barrel for most of the reds), the fruit has to be perfect and the winemaking on point. And so it is.

These are classically styled wines, a homage to McLaren Vale and a nod to the future with newer varietals to the region such as Fiano, Chenin Blanc and Touriga Nacional among the range. Richly fruited, succulent, vibrant, curvaceous and with great movement, Saltfleet are only a few vintages in and already making great wines with humble resources. No doubt about it, a star or two is born.
