2019 Marsannay Charmes Aux Prêtres, from vines adjacent to Pataille’s parcel of Aligoté, was sampled directly from barrel. That influenced its creamy texture and seductive lemon curd, patisserie and vanilla notes. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, quite intense and powerful with gorgeous honeyed tones mixed with lemongrass on the finish. 100% Chardonnay. Pataille has both Chardonnay and Aligoté in La Charme Aux Prêtres, a beautiful, east facing, sloping vineyard located at 280-320m altitude. The Chardonnay vines occupy the top of the slope where the soils are thin, white and rocky. Pataille credits the marl soils here for the smoky, reductive minerality he typically finds in this cuvée. From vines now approaching 30 years, this wine saw two winters on lees before bottling.
