‘I started with this in 2003 and it’s still something of a mystery to me; it’s a grand cru and I pose questions versus the grand crus here but in the end it’s all about interpretations. Always a surprising wine. The logic is the opposite of Bâtard for harvesting – I wait a little to gain a little depth, I think it benefits from maturity…’
Most of the grapes come from the north-west facing part of En Charlemagne, a choice to avoid too much exuberance. Clear pale colour, a little oak showing at the moment, but even so a touch of exotic fruit alongside the minerals. Quite a weight of white flesh here, a sturdy wine which needs long ageing. Drink from 2029-2036. (92-95) Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy, October 2023.

Citrus, just think citrus. Lime that’s fresh juice, zest and preserved, Tangelo, Ruby Grapefruit, Mandarin blossom, gentle spice and Gardenia. Concentrated and deep, such a threading the needle attack, so precise and linear, then pincering the palate with wave after wave of flavour. Intense, dazzling and vital, with a finish that goes on and on. […]

Pale lemon colour, a little more flesh on the nose, pleasingly rounded, very stylish. Buy this without question. With time in the glass the Chablis minerality shows as well as the pleasing flesh.” 89 points, Jasper Morris MW, Inside Burgundy […]
Add to cart Producer: Bernard DefaixLight straw colour with a reserved lemon/grapefruit aroma, fresh and penetrating, the palate brisk and bright with vibrant acidity and intense grapefruit/lemon flavours that persist the full length of the very long palate. Superb vitality and balance. It promises to reward cellaring too. Tremendously concentrated and compact, with extreme drive and massive persistence, it positively […]
Add to cart Producer: Leeuwin EstateI don’t normally like fizzes aged for long periods on lees but this, disgorged after five years, seems to have hit a sweet spot. Still very primary and super intense with pastry notes, butter, apple, almond cream, lavender, honey, grapefruit, lemon, lime, white peach and cinnamon. Fantastic intensity with great vibrancy, the acidity so lively […]
