The strength of Block 3 chardonnay, rows 69 to 85, planted in 1995 to the Penfolds P58 clone, continues to shine from year to year. There’s a lot more going on here than your average chardonnay, a deep complexity for one thing. Nougat, honeysuckle, grilled hazelnuts, lemon butter and musky spice, long and smooth across the palate, launch the drinker into another orbit. Hard to believe it’s just starting its journey.
