“Denser and more compact than its 2019 counterpart, the NV Extra Brut Les Béguines LC 20 reveals inviting aromas of pear, confit citrus, mirabelle plum and spices, followed by a medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated palate that’s vinous and sapid, built around chalky structure and concluding with a penetrating finish. While it can be approached now, a few years’ patience will pay dividends.” 96 points, William Kelley, The Wine Advocate
This is 2020 base with 20% reserve wine from 2019—so two brilliant seasons. Prévost’s 2.2-hectare vineyard, Les Béguines, is in Gueux, 10km west of Reims in the north of Champagne. The soil of Les Béguines is a layer cake of calcareous (Thanetian) sand, over clay, over more calcareous sand. Inherited from Jérôme’s grandmother, the site was planted in the 1960s with an old, slow-growing, less productive rootstock that descends deeply. Les Béguines is close to 100% Meunier, although there is now a small parcel of 10-year-old Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc planted next to the Meunier (these vines represent roughly six per cent of the blend). The vineyard management is organic, with the soils cultivated exclusively by horse and yields kept at balanced levels.
As always, the wine was vinified without any additions, in large format used barrels for 10 months and was bottled unfiltered. Prévost disgorged this release after 18 months on lees and added three grams per litre dosage. In the past, this was always a wine of one given vintage, however, the last two releases have seen some reserve wine included. It’s a game changer—the wines are now even more complex and far more approachable from an early age. Nonetheless, this is a Champagne that’s built for aging.

Lovely alluring scents of strawberries, red cherry, raspberry, blood orange aniseed and Middle Eastern spice. Sensual and rich, creamy with a gentle, fluffy mousse. Extremely complex palate, far more than you should expect in a NV rose Champagne. Again that lift from citrus fruit, pith and mineral textures, bright acidity and complex fruit profile. The […]
Add to cart Producer: Paul DethuneBased on the 2019 vintage and disgorged in April 2022, Agrapart’s NV Brut 7 Crus wafts from the glass with scents of crisp green apple, freshly baked bread, white flowers and buttery pastry. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it’s an ample, incisive wine, with racy acids and a saline finish. When the range begins […]
Add to cart Producer: AgrapartThe tightest, most compact and coiled Champagne of the range. The power of the fruit is very apparent and you can taste why this was aged in 205 litre Champagne barrels. Intense and vivid aromas of blackberry, Middle Eastern spices, toasted almonds, white peach, poached plum, fig and brioche. This is extremely powerful, brighter, less […]
Add to cart Producer: Paul DethuneThe latest rendition of Egly’s emblematic NV Brut Grand Cru is based on the 2016 vintage, and it was disgorged in spring 2021 with only one gram per liter dosage. Wafting from the glass with aromas of pear, crisp stone fruit, wheat toast and citrus oil mingled with hints of white flowers and praline, it’s […]
