The perfect introduction to red wine. A hand-picked mix of some of the best value, top quality reds around!
Six Pack contains 1 bottle each of the following :
Curator Wine Co Hamlets Shiraz 2022
Hamlets Shiraz is made in a complex but juicy style – extremely easy to drink though complex enough to be able to cellar for many years of future enjoyment. Predominantly from three vineyards all planted in the 1950’s in the Hamlets of Vine Vale, Nuriootpa and Ebenezer and then “topped up” with declassified barrels from the CWCo Shiraz blend.
Juxtaposed Old Vine Grenache 2021
The emblematic wine of Juxtaposed, as it’s drawn from both the Wait and Smart vineyards. Its style, one of richness, flesh and silken texture run through all the reds and the quality here is incredible, making this quite possibly the best value grenache in Australia. Deep. Sweet cassis, kirsch, cola, aniseed, creamy vanilla, cured meats, cardamon and fennel. But it’s not all about the fruit. As succulent as the palate is there is mushroom compost, earth and minerals. All that lusciousness counts for nothing without some tangy brightness and this has a high acid line, running the length of the palate, wrapped with slickest, juiciest tannins. Pure and vibrant.
Fighting Gully Road Sangiovese 2022
Includes 5% colorino, an old Chianti variety. The wine spent 28 days on skins, then matured in Italian-cooperated large casks. Bright, clear crimson color; it has a delicious sour cherry, raspberry and black pepper blend, the palate harmonious, juicy, and as fresh as a daisy. 96 points & Top 100 Wines of the Year – James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion
Gilbert Pinot Noir 2022
So often too lean or too worked, Orange pinot noir has hit a sweet spot with Gilbert’s 2022. Pretty and floral, with savory spices, hedge fruits, and tangy rhubarb, plum and English strawberry. Packed with flavor, mineral; lithe and sleek. It’s not silky, there’s too much texture, and for all its lightness, there’s plenty of weight and flesh. A thoroughly complete, and accomplished pinot noir.
Fruit from the Gordon Hills and Borrodell vineyards at 850m to 1030m in elevation; 70/30% whole berries/carbonic maceration. All parcels are separately basket pressed into French oak (15% new). Alpine strawberry, rhubarb and cranberry. Brazilian chilli kiss peppers, goji and rosehip. The carbonic component has elevated the already fragrant perfume and captured Orange’s cool-climate pinot noir spirit. Lithe, slinky and deft on her feet, with swift acidity, exotic florals and elegance of movement across the palate. Structurally sound tannins and a kinesthetic awareness of form. An assured wine and hard to beat at the price. 95 points – Halliday Wine Companion 2024
A Rodda Tempranillo 2021
Classic Tempranillo flavors of cherry cola, sarsaparilla, blue/black fruits and dried flowers. Juicy and vibrant, with a touch of sage. Tight, tight needing time in the glass to unwind. Immensely satisfying wine.
Sourced from a high-elevation 580m vineyard; hand picked, 30% whole bunches fermented separately, matured in French oak hogsheads (38% new) for 16 months. Yes, that’s an expensive price for tempranillo. Yes, it’s worth it. Quality fruit gets the VIP treatment, producing a serious, seamless tempranillo that highlights the grape’s cherry and cassis fruits beautifully. Acacia, bracken, wild herbs and autumnal notes weave between spiced dark berries. So expressive. Fine tannins carry the wine long, accompanied by some cherry stone crunch and verve. Deceptively elegant, but there’s a power surging underneath. 95 Points – James Halliday, Halliday Wine Companion
Walsh & Sons Lola 2021
One of the best value wines we have tasted in a very long time. A blend of Syrah, Cabernet and Grenache, the blend might seem unlikely, but it works tremendously. Plenty to smell here; dried flowers, blackcurrant, plum, raspberry and spice. Ample palate, that coats the mouth in flavor, but without any heaviness or astringency. Vibrant and juicy, with a compote of fruit, sleek texture and fine sandy tannins. There is so much to like here. Lots to think about, or simply, a delicious drink. Either way, impossible not to like and an absolute bargain.
