The 2022 The Relic Shiraz-Viognier contains 2% Viognier skins, and this addition presents in this vintage as a core of raspberry and pomegranate. It is pure fruited and powerfully aromatic, as this cuvee always is. Interestingly, I am tasting this wine from two different glasses: one opened two days ago, one opened this morning. They are quite different, telling us once again that oxygen really is a friend to this producer, especially if choosing to drink these wines young. While the bottle opened two days ago is complete, balanced and utterly refined, it speaks more of its florals and fruit than it does its savory register of spice and complexity. However, the wine opened today has nuances of bacon fat and exotic spice. It is tightly coiled and springy and nowhere near as giving as the former. So, choose your own path. This vintage is a prettier, finer but no less long or coiled version of itself, and it will prove to be one of the greats in the cellar. The tannins certainly are a highlight for me. Built for age but also, in the framework of this beautiful season, absolutely available to you right now. An effortless beauty, here. 14.9% alcohol, sealed under natural cork. 98+ Points – Erin Larkin, The Wine Advocate

Deep, dense colour with blackberry and smoky char-oak aromas, a touch of tar and ironstone, the palate full-bodied and rich, deep, dense and concentrated, the tannins supple and fleshy-smooth. Delicious wine. 95 Points – Huon Hooke, The Real Review SR804. Grapes were sourced from renowned Roennfeldt Road in the sub-region of Marananga in the […]
Add to cartSuperficially an outsider in the range, coming from classic Heathcote Cambrian soil, known for producing wines of incredible richness and power. But it’s not an outsider, the power harnessed and controlled by the best in the business. Certainly the Heart of Darkness of the range; the richest, most dangerous, darkest and deepest wine. Masses of […]
Add to cartDeep, dark and very bright purple-red colour, with a lovely detailed aroma of chocolate and herbs, both fresh and dried; floral nuances and red fruits, hints of spices and the palate is very full-bodied and generous with lashings of supple tannins, all in harmony with the great depth of fruit. A complex wine already: it […]

Tasting sixty-odd American wines recently, the ’21 Arnot-Roberts Sonoma Coast Syrah was hands down my favourite. Sensual aromatics of sweet dark and red fruits, lavender, whole bunch spice and kirsch. 100% whole bunch is hard to imagine, as they in no way dominate or overpower the fruit. Juicy, sweet and tangy fruit – texturally the […]
