From one of Australia’s earliest close-planted vineyards, established on granite and clay soils, this is a Pinot Noir of remarkable presence and refinement. The aromatics are expansive and deeply expressive, revealing an intensely floral bouquet layered with English summer berries, blackberry, mulberry, tar, exotic Lebanese spices, a wisp of smoke and the first savoury hints of cured Serrano ham.
The palate is powerful yet exquisitely composed, with concentrated fruit delivered in finely etched detail. Every element is sculpted and focused, supported by beautifully integrated, velvety tannins and a vibrant line of acidity that carries the wine effortlessly across the palate. There is an unmistakable sense of scale and gravitas, yet the wine never loses its poise or energy. It combines power with elegance, richness with precision, creating a Pinot Noir of extraordinary tension, persistence and finesse. A truly grand expression of Savaterre, where intensity and grace exist in perfect harmony.
Medium ruby to garnet colour showing some development; the bouquet also showing some tertiary nuances buildng a smoked charcuterie and toasty oak mélange, uncannily burgundian and five-spicy, with intensity, persistence and great sweet fruit richness in its core. The progresses builds and swells as it progresses through the mouth, fanning into a true “peacock’s tail”. An outstanding pinot noir, with ‘wow’ factor! 97 points – Huon Hooke, The Real Review
A little more open, a little more aromatic, a little more immediately inviting than the previous release, which is good news for those impatient wine drinkers among us. Lifted and beautifully perfumed in rose petal and violet aromas, red berries, raspberry, blood orange pith and aromatic dried herbs. Comes together in perfect sync, integrated in fine tannins, with small red berries, herbs and aromatics on show and a freshness of acidity that pulses and brightens the whole experience. But, yes, for those not impatient, be assured it’s got a decade in it, easy. 96 points – Jeni Port, Halliday Wine Companion

Grapes from seven different vineyards spread across Shaw’s Ridge, Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge and Elandskloof. Approximately 50% whole-bunch fermentation. Matured in mainly older 228-litre barrels. Enticing aromatics of red and black cherry, orange, floral perfume, fynbos, earth and white pepper. The palate shows juicy fruit, big acidity and pleasantly grippy tannins. Remarkably deft, particularly given the sizeable […]

This is a beguiling and dreamy wine. Translucent, deep ruby/magenta with a harmonious bouquet of dark, jubey fruit, subtle florals, spicy rolling tobacco and wet stone. The nose certainly promises a lot and the palate delivers in spades. Smooth, soft, full and ripe – red and dark cherries mingle with chalky, ultra-fine tannins with enough […]

“Made from fruit sourced from the Moorabool Valley, Surf Coast and Portarlington. 10% whole bunches and 15% new oak. A really bright crimson ruby. With its aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry and some whole bunch–derived pepper and spice, there’s a lot going on in this well put-together and attractively priced wine. The palate is medium […]

Les Bousselots is a mid slope vineyard, with clay rich soils. As you would expect the wines are full bodied, dark coloured and with deep soft tannins. Julien’s rendition is one of the blackest from any producer of this vineyard I can remember tasting. Spiced plum, hedge fruits, black cherry and cassis, flecked with sweet […]
