Producer Profile

The Irrewarra vineyard, owned and planted by the Calvert family, is situated in Victoria’s Western District. The Farr’s manage and work the vineyard, and produce the wines in a style that reflects the vineyard’s cool nature. Clay based with high annual rainfall, these are challenging conditions for Burgundian varieties, but the humidity and wetness of the district produces distinct wines.

The Farr’s Bannockburn wines wear the sun and reflect the warm, exuberant nature of the landscape – rich, full bodied, generous and bright. Irrewarra is wilder, savoury, with a greater emphasis on red fruits, spice and firm tannic structures. Humidity is a curse for any wine grower, but for Pinot Noir, it brings out greater tertiary notes of game, earth and smoke. The tannins are finer too, a nod to the coolness of the site, like fine boned china. Delicately brittle. The Chardonnay is very different from the Bannockburn renditions. Cooler, bright, very energetic, with complex citrus profiles, minerals, salt and great structure. A Chardonnay of verve and sinew, destined for a long life.
