Impenetrable yet vivid colour. Gorgeous nose of blackcurrant, kirsch, lavender and a touch of tobacco. Full bodied, with glossy blue and black fruits, cigar box, coal dust, chocolate and cherries. It’s certainly within the Wild Duck mould, but like all their releases since 2020, a new level of vigour and intensity has entered the wines. Firm, gripping tannins tussle and tension with the juicy fruit. Waters Wine Co
Destemmed to open fermenters; 20 months’ maturation in French oak (40% new). Fruit is plush and sumptuous (a northern Heathcote specialty), but it is the integration of wild herbs and warm, woodsy spices that really elevates and enriches this wine – that and the noteworthy, wrangling tannins. Ripe blackberry, black cherry, chocolate, earth, aniseed, clove, nutmeg, wild bush herbs and more to discover here, especially with time. 93 Points, Halliday Wine Companion
